I beg to differ. At camp it's normal for the defense to have a head start on the offense, not the other way around.No suprise about the d not up to speed yet. We've been in pads less than a week. It's a lot harder to get back into hitting than running an offense. With no pads, o still goes full speed. It's harder
For the defense to "catch up" early in camp.
Always a hard to answer question. But it can be easier to answer if one knew whether or not the scrimmage was 1s v. 1s or 1s v. 2s? Anyone know? UofL apparently had a very productive offensive showing in their Saturday scrimmage but it was 1s v. 2s, much like the spring game.My question is did the offense look good because the defense is so poor?
Kind of discouraging that Stoops was brought in as a defensive guru yet the defense has been by far the most disappointing aspect of his tenure. Makes it even more discouraging when you look at what Mason has done with Vandy's D.
I know our O will shine this year so I'm not surpriemsed they outplayed the D. This is not knocking the D, but we all know we are going to have a much better O than in years past.
Gram said something about making some "contested plays" is very interesting.Always a hard to answer question. They have improved every year they have been here. Even through the adversities that have come about.You have to think if the defense is horrid again this year then Elliot gets the ax at seasons end. You can only make so many excuses, but if after 4 years you can't put a competent defense on the field then you have to cut your ties.

This year four stuff is getting old. There a far more factors at play than number of years here.
Yup!! People act like these other coaches are just going to wait for us to catch up. And the whole "coach them up" phrase is getting ridiculous as well. It's not like the other coaches we face are stupid. You can only do so much to catch them off guard.Re 4 year stuff, I agree. UK's opponents have scholarship players too.
I just have this horrid feeling that our defense is gonna suck mud again this year.
And we have done that while being in the best football conference.UK total defense national ranking:
2013 = 91st
2014 = 75th
2015 = 59th
59th is neither horrid nor sucking mud.
Charter member of woe-to-us crowd. :clap:You have to think if the defense is horrid again this year then Elliot gets the ax at seasons end. You can only make so many excuses, but if after 4 years you can't put a competent defense on the field then you have to cut your ties.
More woe.I just have this horrid feeling that our defense is gonna suck mud again this year.
Our D wasn't our weakness last year, so can't be again.It is our weakness again because of lack of depth on D-Line and LBs.
Once again, we must depend on the Offense to get us to a bowl by improving.
Shhh. Not what the woe people want to hear.Last years defense was fairly good. Not great but competent. When the offense had no ball control, numerous short fields from special teams and to not be in the bottom ten percent is quite remarkable.

We haven't had "strong defensive" teams since JerryKind of discouraging that Stoops was brought in as a defensive guru yet the defense has been by far the most disappointing aspect of his tenure. Makes it even more discouraging when you look at what Mason has done with Vandy's D.
BINGO! The goal for this year is a bowl game. If we didnt have any question marks we would be a top 10 team. We have some flaws but the biggest question is are we better than 6 teams on our schedule. I believe we are and like our roster and think we score a bunch of points against 10 teams we faceWhat great offense does UK play in 2016? What great quarterback?
Questions about our d are legit, but just remember we ain't facing 12 games of seasoned 4 year starter projected 1st round an lead offenses. Mizzou, south carolina, vandy, miss st without Dak, uf without Grier....
Terrible compairson. Vandy had great talent on defense when Mason arrived. Joker left Stoops nothing.Kind of discouraging that Stoops was brought in as a defensive guru yet the defense has been by far the most disappointing aspect of his tenure. The O certainly couldn't be any worse. The only way it could go is up.We really don't know the O will be better, we do hope the O will be better.
Its amazing how many people think our defense was the problem. We averaged under 20 points a game in sec play! You aren't beating anyone if you can't score.Our D wasn't our weakness last year, so can't be again.
It would look a whole lot better if the O can keep the ball a bit.We haven't had "strong defensive" teams since Jerry
That tends to help...It would look a whole lot better if the O can keep the ball a bit.
