No suprise about the d not up to speed yet. We've been in pads less than a week. It's a lot harder to get back into hitting than running an offense. With no pads, o still goes full speed. It's harder
For the defense to "catch up" early in camp.

I beg to differ. At camp it's normal for the defense to have a head start on the offense, not the other way around.

Everyone knows, or should know, the defensive front seven will struggle this year. Not enough experience nor depth to compete week in and week out in the SEC. Hope is the offense will out score opposition.

Kind of discouraging that Stoops was brought in as a defensive guru yet the defense has been by far the most disappointing aspect of his tenure. Makes it even more discouraging when you look at what Mason has done with Vandy's D.

My question is did the offense look good because the defense is so poor?
Always a hard to answer question. But it can be easier to answer if one knew whether or not the scrimmage was 1s v. 1s or 1s v. 2s? Anyone know? UofL apparently had a very productive offensive showing in their Saturday scrimmage but it was 1s v. 2s, much like the spring game.

Peace

Franklin recruited way better than Joker did. The defense has improved since Stoops has been here, just not at the rate that the fans or coaches want.

I usually cant stand when players sit out as precaution but with Williams...i would not let him practice at all until USM...he is injury prone anyway...no chances

I know our O will shine this year so I'm not surpriemsed they outplayed the D. This is not knocking the D, but we all know we are going to have a much better O than in years past.

Gram said something about making some "contested plays" is very interesting.

You have to think if the defense is horrid again this year then Elliot gets the ax at seasons end. You can only make so many excuses, but if after 4 years you can't put a competent defense on the field then you have to cut your ties.

They have improved every year they have been here. Even through the adversities that have come about.

This year four stuff is getting old. There a far more factors at play than number of years here.

Re 4 year stuff, I agree. UK's opponents have scholarship players too.

Yup!! People act like these other coaches are just going to wait for us to catch up. And the whole "coach them up" phrase is getting ridiculous as well. It's not like the other coaches we face are stupid. You can only do so much to catch them off guard.

Last years defense was fairly good. Not great but competent. When the offense had no ball control, numerous short fields from special teams and to not be in the bottom ten percent is quite remarkable.

Move the chains....too many three and outs for even a good defense to survive.

The running game plays into the lack of depth on the defensive front. Should be an interesting season and recruiting class

Possibly he has better players.

I expect the D to move into the 40s just because our offense will be sooo much better. Had we had a decent O last year, we probably are in the high 40s for total D.

What great offense does UK play in 2016? What great quarterback?

Questions about our d are legit, but just remember we ain't facing 12 games of seasoned 4 year starter projected 1st round an lead offenses. Mizzou, south carolina, vandy, miss st without Dak, uf without Grier....

We haven't had "strong defensive" teams since Jerry

BINGO! The goal for this year is a bowl game. If we didnt have any question marks we would be a top 10 team. We have some flaws but the biggest question is are we better than 6 teams on our schedule. I believe we are and like our roster and think we score a bunch of points against 10 teams we face

Terrible compairson. Vandy had great talent on defense when Mason arrived. Joker left Stoops nothing.
