Offense.......what is happening?

Only made 4 or 5 shots this half. Offense is stagnant, but at least we are making some FT's. Do we have an offensive plan? Would someone be able to explain it to me?

Nothing.. and that has been the consistent weakness from this team for the year. Half court offense is definitely our weakness at this point in the season. Seems to be no strategy or consistent execution. Too much free wheeling.

A whole lot of dribbling around the perimeter. And some reall screw jobs by these refs.

9+ minutes without a field goal will do that OP.

I'd be setting some screens for booker when our offense isn't working.

Cal is a defensive coach and always has been. He doesn't care if we score 30, as long as the other team scored 20.

Man are we winning this game? Are we undefeated while beating a couple top ten teams? It really doesn't appear so judging by this board.

Cal started milking the clock with 10 minutes left. He seems to want to run isolation plays with Aaron or Trey. I can't understand why he doesn't set Devin up for shots. Why?

That was an outstanding shot by Aaron Harrison. I wish we would see more of that from Aaron, Andrew and Booker.

22nd ranked defense in the country, we're shooting a 47% field goal percentage, but the pace isn't fast, and we're getting hacked at a lot.
We're fine.

You're underestimating how hard, and how physical, SC is playing. This is just like the UofL game. Too much holding and grabbing to have much offensive flow..

I'm ecstatic that we are winning. But, we need a better offensive flow. We are going to need to score points at some point.

Andrew cannot beat many off the dribble so our offense stays outside. And our big guys, as talented on defense as they are, are very mediocre offensively. Towns and Johnson miss more 3 footers than is legal. Lyles is slumping a little and Willie just doesn't call for it a lot.

It's the most glaring weakness we have on a team that doesn't have many.

Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the other team. Could we have played better? absolutely. But, SC is a good defensive team. We won't look like world beaters against everyone.

The BIGS lack of O has hurt the flow of the O much more than anything.

Towns spent a lot of time sitting today.

Fans, our Offense will be fine come March. The other team does this alot with their style of Ball. Look at the other undefeated team in the country Virginia. The last 3 Wins they have scored in the 50's - 60's and held the other team in the 30's. I have noticed this year there has been way better defenses in NCAA Basketball and Defense wins National Championships.

No offensive rebounding neutered our offensive attack.

We rebounded just 3 times out of 25 opportunities on offense for a rate of 0.12. We're getting 7 or more chances on an average offensive rebounding night.

Cal said earlier in the week that they needed to work on offense and he had plans to do just that. Obviously, more work is needed.

Cal milks the clock way too early at times. This time it was with about 12 minutes to go, and that's when we stopped making shots too.

O looks good with a creative point guard on the floor! I am so glad we are talented on D. 19-0. Booker, Ulis, and number 2 are dangerous in the half court set.

Agreed. Still we shot 46% with only 8 TOs. Kind of like cooking, while you're putting it together sometimes it doesn't look too good but the final baked product looks and tastes OK.

Andrew was beating everybody to the lane in the first half. So that's not true. He wasn't even trying to drive in the second half. Nobody was. They just kept running clock instead of getting inside off the bounce or entry. It was almost like Cal was trying to work on something specific.

Andrew didn't play great but when Karl, Lyles, and Willie play like pure garbage he gets the heat for not running the offense. In the first half he drove a couple of times and Karl doesn't jump for lob. He passes the ball to karl on block and he hesitates which causes the offense to stall. Lyles, towns, and wcs did not bring it on the offensive end and ran from contact.

Andrew is pressing right now. He shoots when he should pass and passes when he should shoot. He still plays hard and plays solid D. 19-0.

I see similarities to last season except we have a couple Freshman that can get us some extra points that didn't exist before. The half court sets are awful. But, it is still January and hopefully continuing to try will help this type of offense improve. It is clearly in evidence though that the team is way better offensively uptempo and in transition that when slowed down.

The offense was fine, we shot 46%, right at our season average. The pace was just slowed down

Goodness gracious folks we just whipped USC by 15 at Columbia. What is wrong with some of you?

I personally think it is the best defense we have played this year. I am happy.

Like Cal said we are not playing the scoreboard we are playing against ourselves. 9 mins without a basket is frustrating to watch. But yeah I agree we won on the road at notorious tough venue. 19-0

And we shot 27 free throws and took relatively good care of the basketball.

Our heinous work on the offensive glass kept this game from being a laugher.

Offense is fine when ulis is in there, he penetrates, spreads the floor, and things happen. It's called dribble drive. When andrew is in there, meh.

I love how many in this thread choose to use the topic to bash Andrew. He runs the plays that Cal gives him. Give it up Haters!

Honestly I would blame the other 4 players on the floor before I would Andrew. Go back and watch it objectively, they stood around for 10-12 seconds and never started moving until the shot clock was 1/2 over. By that time we had to rush and no offense is going to look descent when the other team knows that they have to shoot as fast as they can.

We need to move and open lanes more than what we did today. Now, like others have said, Cal was milking the clock so you have to throw him under the bus as well.

Fans are just discussing offense. Everyone realizes our defense is ridiculous. And I don't see anyone not thrilled with 19-0.

Just fan banter.

Many of us are concerned about the offense when March gets here. I really don't care about the margin against USC in January. That's not the point. The point is this team often struggles in half court offensive sets and we're going to have to improve. We're not going to hold six teams in the tournament to 40 or 50 points. At some point we will have to score and do it consistently to win the title.

The offense will be fine when we hit March Madness. Defense is what will get us our next National Championship. Last season we had 8 defeats at this time. We when we went through those 2 games vs. Texas A&M and everyone was talking about our offense we then came back the next 2 vs. Mizz and Bama had great offensive days. Its not like our offense has been horrible all season. We have a good offensive team when all cylinders are clicking but our Defense will get us the next National Championship. Look at other teams in the top 5, UVA is one team that lives by the Defense and only gives up 30-40 ppg and they only score in the 50-60s ppg.
