Official gameday thread- Duke vs Uconn

April 3rd 2004- I was a 13 year old kid finally extremely invested in basketball.. team of choice- the Duke blue devils. I was happy when Duke won games in years past but JJ Redick struck a chord. I was a fan and I was not just hooked but addicted. Second game of the final four- Georgia Tech waiting the winner, I had no doubt Duke would roll on and win number 4. Celebration in the pisgah101 household when Emeka Okafor went to the bench in the first half in foul trouble- anger as if seemed the refs were extremely one sided against Duke. Second half comes, Duke stays ahead, bigs fouling out, hope still there. Game gets to the end Duke still up, missed shots, turnovers- UConn goes ahead- coach K famously screaming at the refs “you killed us, you killed us” Chris Duhon last second 3 to allow us to lose by 1..depression. Young Pisgah spends the next day playing NCAA basketball as Duke vs UConn and beating the brakes off of them. I was only 8 for the 99 game so this was my introduction to and start of my hatred of UConn.

22 years later and we have a chance at a back to back final four with one team standing in the way… UConn. We need it, we want it, we have to have it.

I was in college in 2004. The officiating in that game was truly terrible. When people complain about Duke getting all the calls, this is one of many examples I point out.

Yeah, '99 killed me, but '04 broke me that year. I lost my mind. I was in a basketball depression for a while. I've waited over twenty years for payback. I want this one as much as I have wanted a Duke win in recent memory. To me, this is a program-defining moment for Jon. Go get back-to-back Final Fours. Beat these bastards. I hope Hurley gets tossed. Can't stand that guy.

Can't wait for it to start. Both teams create matchup nightmares for each other....

1- who do we put on Karaban while he runs around non stop on the perimeter? If we use Brown on him, that'll leave Cam on Reed which isn't good for us. He's bigger than Cam and we can't afford to get Cam in any foul trouble.

2- who do they use to cover Cam? Cam would biully Karaban all game and our high low game with Pat and Cam would get us easy points and possibly get them in foul trouble. They may put Reed on Cam, but then if we have Pat in there, he would dominate Karaban. They also can't afford Reed in foul trouble.
