"If OU students are involved, this behavior will not be tolerated and will be addressed very quickly," Boren said. "This behavior is reprehensible and contrary to all of our values."

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/03/09/university-oklahoma-frat-closed-after-video-purportedly-showing-racist-chant-by/

So why then, Mr. President Boren, are you not equally upset with this crap that YOU APPROVE OF being broadcast over the stadium PA system at many home games? Or maybe this is OK with you and it isn't reprehensible or contrary to all your values?

"Jump Around"

[/B]Pack it up, pack it in
Let me begin
I came to win
Battle me that's a sin
I won't tear the sack up
Punk you'd better back up
Try and play the role and the whole crew will act up
Get up, stand up, come on!
Come on, throw your hands up
If you've got the feeling jump across the ceiling
Mugs is a funk fest, someone's talking junk
Yo, I'll bust em in the eye
And then I'll take the punks home
Feel it, funk it
Amps in the trunk
And I got more rhymes than there's cops at a "Dunkin Donuts" shop
Sure enough I got props from the kids on the Hill
Plus my mom and my pops

I came to get down
So get out your seats and jump around
Jump around
Jump up, jump up and get down.
Jump

I'll serve your *** like John McEnroe
If your girl steps up, I'm smacking the ho
Word to your moms I came to drop bombs
I got more rhymes than the Bible's got psalms
And just like the Prodigal Son I've returned
Anyone stepping to me you'll get burned
'Cause I got lyrics but you ain't got none
If you come to battle bring a shotgun
But if you do you're a fool, 'cause I duel to the death
Trying to step to me you'll take your last breath
I got the skill, come get your fill
'Cause when I shoot to give, I shoot to kill

I'm the cream of the crop, I rise to the top
I never eat a pig 'cause a pig is a cop
Or better yet a terminator
Like Arnold Schwarzenegger
Trying to play me out like as if my name was Sega
But I ain't going out like no punk *****
Get used to one style and you know I might switch
It up up and around, then buck buck get down
Put out your head then you wake up in the Dawn of the Dead
I'm coming to get ya, I'm coming to get ya
Spitting out lyrics homie I'll wet ya

Yo, this is dedicated
To Joe, da flava, Dakota
Grab yo bozac, punk

The pencil neck with the black coat was so passionate with his chant lol, he's probably just as passionate cheering on black athletes at the OU games.

I really hope the mods delete this thread.
at a time when a lot of strangers will visit this site to see the discourse we have about this issue, and this crap is what they'll see???
Embarrassing.

Section 22, apples and oranges comparison. And not a very good one at that.

I friggin' embarassed by this thread and the actions of the fraternity. I hope Boren cracks down on this situation like he did Frank Shannon.

22... I'll give you the benefit of the doubt but please explain how you feel the behavior of the fraternity is not embarassing to those who support OU.

Plaino, I recognize that you are greatly concerned about the commentary on this board regarding Coaching and OU in general, but the vid of the fraternity that went viral has set OU back in terms of image and recruiting a million x's more than anything stated on this board.

I feel really bad for of the black students that attend OU, especially the athletes that work hard for OU and bring each of us enjoyment.

This. Is. Embarrassing.

I get it. It's Oklahoma and what you folks are upset about is the fact that they were moronic enough to get caught on camera saying what they said. The OPs argument is a straw man, which serves to enhance the idea that the general attitude towards such issues at Oklahoma match what is on the video. The message is loud and clear; no problem being a bigot, but don't get caught on camera being one.

Breaking, @ 9:55 A.M....

The University of Oklahoma

[/I]

Statement:

To those who have misused their free speech in such a reprehensible way, I have a message for you. You are disgraceful. You have violated all that we stand for. You should not have the privilege of calling yourselves "Sooners." Real Sooners are not racist. Real Sooners are not bigots. Real Sooners believe in equal opportunity. Real Sooners treat all people with respect. Real Sooners love each other and take care of each other like family members.

Effective... immediately, all ties and affiliations between this University and the local SAE chapter are hereby severed. I direct that the house be closed and that members will remove their personal belongings from the house by midnight tomorrow. Those needing to make special arrangements for possessions shall contact the Dean of Students.

All of us will redouble our efforts to create the strongest sense of family and community. We vow that we will be an example to the entire country of how to deal with this issue. There must be zero tolerance for racism everywhere in our nation.

President Boren

Props to your University student body, faculty, and president, they were progressive in handling the issue. Personally I owe OU fans an apology for my earlier post. I jumped to conclusions after reading the OPs comments. My apologies.

The SAE frat at ou has been in and out of trouble for years. My brother in law was the president of this frat, as was his uncle and father. It's very sad to think this still goes on in 2015. Unfortunately this isn't just an ou thing, it happens a lot more than it should and I hope this action being recorded can shut some of these narrow minded frats down.

Section 22, you are absolutely, positively, 100% SPOT ON!!!!!!!!!! The first thing that came to mind when I heard about this story was whether OU would continue to glorify "smackin' the ho" at sporting events. Boren's line about "misusing free speech" is very oxymoronic as well. Sorry kiddos, but when "speech" becomes subject to "misuse," it is anything but free.

You're imagining things. Can you not see in the title of this thread where I say that "I understand why you're upset"? My point is regarding the double standard. There is no line in the sand. It moves depending on who says it. But songs about slapping ho and calling law enforcement "pigs" and killing people is OK on campus. Why? What makes it acceptable?

To Drewcristo, stay classy.

Section 22, your post went over quite a few people's heads. Not all that surprising considering that their heads probably rest at butt-level.

Before posting this thread, have you ever formally complained about the song being played at OU events?

He is a drama queen who has not posted in months. He does not reflect the feelings of Sooner fans or board members.

I get going after those involved but unless 100% were involved I don't understand shutting down the house and severing ties with the fraternity completely.

This.

I doubt it. Mostly likely, he was jumping around in Section 22 of the stadium.

22, it didn't go over my head, but your post is comletely misplaced.

pfka, there is no place on OU's campus or any campus that this acceptable. This isn't a one time situation and those who pledge to this fraternity know what they're doing and what's going on.

I agree with Zero tolerance and this is a subject that affects me personally, but to punish the innocent for the actions of others doesn't make sense. If you have one bigot or racist on the football team are you prepared to shut down the entire team? No, you isolate those that are in the wrong and deal with them individually.

So if there are 60 active members and one of them stayed home from the event due to illness, then the frat should remain?

Eh, some of you are looking at this through a prism of emotion and pride. Don't do that.

If you get caught up in the folderol of it all it will consume you.

Immutable fact #1: There are Frats and Sororities all across the land that are like this, especially in the south.
The glaring difference here is this bunch was actually stupid enough to get caught spewing forth on a clandestinely placed cellphone video.

Immutable fact #2: 22 is merely pointing out the hypocrisy of the culture of the double standard that allows 'artists' to vomit up all kinds of vile imagery in the oft abused name of 'free speech'.
Funny, you'd censure him for pointing that out and not the 'artists' that was the crux of his point?
Good luck with that tortured logic.

Also, can't blame Boren for the 'scorched earth' response. As I see it he had no choice.

Oh, and by the way. If you read something on Wiki you don't agree with. Edit the motha!

Apples to oranges. This isn't a football team where a large percentage are black players. This is a fraternity with the ideology that blacks are not welcome.

Merely... And this is merely an ignorant comparison and ill-timed kickstarter for such a conversation. That would be immutable fact #3.
