So apparently, this was the pre-game Louisville "issue"
Dude, wth?
You got too pumped too early? Thats weak sauce my man.

Ehh. If he focuses on a winning product, he can show up twirling a sock on his privates to the pressers for all I care.
Yeah. He gets too cute sometimes. It's just a weird response. I mean he put it out there like it was some big secret and "Wasn't ready to talk about it."
Like what the hell?
You lose a game and then say "Whoops......too hyped?!"
Yeah. He gets too cute sometimes.
Yeah- that's too damn Cal-ish to me. Stop it.
some of you just look for dumb stuff to worry about.
I think this may be Pope’s wake up call that fans will hang onto literally everything you say hahasome of you just look for dumb stuff to worry about.
This 100%Yeah- that's too damn Cal-ish to me. Stop it.
Again. He's the one that brought it up And then again tonight.I think this may be Pope’s wake up call that fans will hang onto literally everything you say haha
To be fair Pope sounded so serious when he first said it that it did sound like something bad happened. I thought maybe a fight between players or maybe a fight with some Cards fans,I think this may be Pope’s wake up call that fans will hang onto literally everything you say haha
I agree. I wonder if something went down and now he’s just trying to cover it up. Ultimately, we won’t care if we play well in the Champions Classic. He will need to learn how not to handle these pressers lol.Again. He's the one that brought it up And then again tonight.
Like, what are you doing man? It's just freaking weird.
This is modern athletics. They get all touchy feely, hypey psychy these days.Yeah- that's too damn Cal-ish to me. Stop it.
Is pressure already bothering him?
Again, love the guy, but what? He sounds so different from last year.

Sabin was one of the worst about this. They had a routine on game day. The intent was to get you on the field in exactly the same mental and physical state every time.
It’s not a cal thing. It’s posh now. They all do it. Actually, now I think on it, not sure Cal had a thing.

Agreed. That's why its so odd to me that a guy that is so analytical and stat guru blames it on being "over hyped"Really, since we have no idea as to what he was talking about, what is there to say. Hell not every locker room gets along, personally what disappointed me about the UofL game was one, our 3pt shot selection, it was not good, second our sloppy ball handling we gave UofL double figures points off those turnovers with the cats getting nothing, and 3rd, I really would like to see B.G. get off the ground and try to block a shot, 4 times he stood flat footed and watch a UofL guard drive to the basket.
It was his way of saying Oweh needs to be Oweh and stop trying to play a style that doesn’t work for him. That’s what I was thinking as well. What is he talking about?!?
Buy it or not, they are all into that. Some talk about, some don’t. Pope opened up there. Most of them just keep that crap to themselves because of people like you actually that don’t get it. Actually I don’t get it either, just go play the damn game. That said, it’s the thang these days. Not the routine- the cutesy little answers. I don't care for that stuff. He said it so serious on Tuesday after the loss. And then today is like "too hyped".
Nah, not buying that. Getting too hyped doesn't have you down 20 at times
Its just a weird response is all.
I didn’t read it that way. I read it as he isn’t going to tolerate the jogging back in transition and playing out of sorts. He’s forcing the team to run 17 reps of some kind of sprinting drill for each jog in transition. He also had an anecdote about Oweh where he compared his own coaching to others and pointed out its best to celebrate your own talent and not try to be something you’re not. I felt like I understood Pope 1000% tonight. Pretty straightforward on some of that

Think about it like this: we just played awful defensively in a game we expected to win. Then, the next game, Pope is calling the players out for jogging and not playing with the right defensive intensity. It makes sense to acknowledge they aren’t as far along. I think he’s being honest.I suppose. And I agree. Its more the "I'm surprised we're not further along" I don't like hearing that from any coach.. Like, you're the coach man. That's you're job to figure it out.
Just a weird week presser wise for Pope.
Is pressure already bothering him?
Again, love the guy, but what? He sounds so different from last year.
Yep. It was a very transparent presser other than the goofy comment about the Louisville prep. I think he knows people tire with the cute stuff so he just spoke his mind. Good on himMaybe he has some frustration and feels like some guys are doing their own thing and not what is best for the team. It felt like last season the guys seemed to fit together right off and find their roles but that hasn't happened early with this group.

The dude spoke pretty plain tonight. I don’t get the critique on this tbhI hope he is not toying with the fans. I love his cerebral approach, but can we just get back to understanding the assignment?
Is it blaming the players if he acknowledges what our eyes can clearly see? Guys that aren’t hustling back and whatnot? Looks to me like he used the bench as a teaching tool tonight and is gonna put sprints to use like a coach shouldI like Pope but he needs to get things figured out and quit worrying about bs. It all falls on him and when he starts blaming players then he really doesn’t understand the assignment.
I like him holding our players accountable! I actually wish he’d switch gears and go a little Bobby knight on a player lol. But I was talking about the pregame just sounded like he was blaming everything, excuses, and reasoning isn’t good enough I don’t think. Is it blaming the players if he acknowledges what our eyes can clearly see? This. I don't know how that could be taken any other wayIt was his way of saying Oweh needs to be Oweh and stop trying to play a style that doesn’t work for him.
Sometimes he’s talking in front of the media, but really he’s speaking to his team.This. I don't know how that could be taken any other way
Lackluster coaching I haven't seen. I get the feeling you haven't been round sports psychology much. That's ok. I get it.No, I get it. I don't get blaming lackluster coaching and lackluster defense on that. That is crap.
You don't think UoL was hyped all day? It's just a bad excuse. Something out of character for Pope.
Did you watch that UofL game? Kelsey handed Pope his backside for 90 percent of that game. It's ok to admit that.Lackluster coaching I haven't seen. I get the feeling you haven't been round sports psychology much. That's ok. I get it.
