To be fair Pope sounded so serious when he first said it that it did sound like something bad happened. I thought maybe a fight between players or maybe a fight with some Cards fans,
That’s how I took it. I bet it was something more and this is just some BS to try and end the speculation.

Maybe he has some frustration and feels like some guys are doing their own thing and not what is best for the team. It felt like last season the guys seemed to fit together right off and find their roles but that hasn't happened early with this group.
I agree with this 100%. It sucks Lowe is made of glass as well. Not helping.

Did you watch that UofL game? Kelsey handed Pope his backside for 90 percent of that game. It's ok to admit that.
I know for a fact they were hyped all day and week for that game. That little dude doesn’t stop moving, motivating, talking. He’s like a midget on crack so that overly hyped too early excuse don’t work.

Exactly. Said the same thing. He wasn’t even speaking much in code, pretty straightforward

Clearly. lol. I never watch coaches interviews. Haven’t in years. It’s never intended to be anything meaningful. They either talk to their team through the media or ******** long enough to get through it. There’s nothing to gain as a fan. If so, it’ll make its rounds (injury report) other places and you’ll see it. Coaches love talking to their players through the media because it gets their attention passively and motivates them.

Pitino is funny the guy will hammer fist his players through the media. When Cal did his post games it was usually to talk to his team and be a tool for his narcissism on display. Once he learned what the fans hated he just did it over and over. No reason to watch it.

I do watch Calipari’s pressers now that he’s gone. Love it after his losses.

one of my coaches did what was called the scorers report. He did nothing but blast us start to finish. Only thing you got out of it was how pissed he was at us.

Hence my point. He shouldn't have said anything. Just a weird misstep for him.

He’s probably got his reasons. Could have been to send a warning to a player who knows. Coaches talk to their team through the media. It’s not meant for you. That’s what I’m trying to say. There’s no telling their pressers are all agenda.

It could be that Pope was offering an excuse for losing but he had to conjure up a good reason so, he came up with a pregame incident. Now, he doesn't know what to say. I agree with earlier posts that say, sometimes he gets too cute with responses. In this case, he looks goofy. But this too shall pass.

Bro. He can tell Oweh his strength isn’t as a jump shooter and have him do other things. One of the core things I expect from a coach is to put each player in a position to play according to their individual strengths.

The way you look at the game almost renders coaching obsolete. Might as well hire Tom Crean if the coach gets no responsibility for which of our players takes what types of shots. Irony is that Pope literally disagrees with what you’re saying himself. Go watch the postgame last night lol
Thats bullcrap dude. You dont coach by being an overreacting fan. Youre on here talking about Pope telling SEC POTY candidate he can't shoot. Ive seen posts on here with people talking about benching him. Total nonsense. You don't change things based on one ballgame like fans think you should. We might return 9 players next year and we have people on here saying Pope need to pull in four 5 stars and the best players from the portal. They scoff at the idea of being led by SR's in a year or two instead of rolling with guys you have had in your program 3-4 years. I think exactly like a coach because I was one. Pope got a completely turned over roster to the sweet 16 last year. Your criticism of him is amateur ridiculous

I think the village idiot (lol) is seeing some issues he thinks are there before it happens in long term fashion and not so much taking major issues with the current time. That’s what I get from it and some of it is right. We just don’t have a sample size to know if any of this is legitimate.

I’m biased I think Pope is so necessary im giving it more time. And he hasn’t even done anything wrong yet as it stands today.

It think you’re right in that many of these people don’t know what he’s doing, what he’s building, what all of this is in preparation for. “Get rid of Garrison”. “Get rid of Oweh”. These post are out there and it’s so ridiculous. This team isn’t healthy that’s the first problem with that crap.

I coached and played and I see a lot of post from people that clearly didn’t. Not a knock on them at all it’s just an observation. Pope is a genius, the guy is out of all of our leagues. Blue blood coach in 10 years, medical school at Columbia, NBA player, national champ and captain. Hello? I think he gets this more than a lot of these guys here. So people need to chill a little on the extremes. Pope is building a roster of continuity, defense, modern offense inside of a real program not a farm system. And some of these aren’t used to it it seems. When injuries come along it takes longer but let him work. Find issues and discuss is fine that’s what guys like village idiot are doing and that’s fine. It’s what we’re here for.

Looks like Pope had the same criticism himself about Oweh’s play. Definitely not in favor of benching him, I think he’s going to be our most important cog in the wheel of a deep run. You get your feelings hurt real easy because someone said Oweh isn’t playing to his strengths—-something Pope himself said? Bro, you may want to just not check message boards if someone saying a player needs to take less threes harms you. I’m not your enemy —- I’m just another fan stating the obvious. And ultimately, it doesn’t seem to me that you think ANY type of criticism is warranting toward coaches. When Calipari was here did you get angry when people criticized his lineups? Did you get upset when people said he didn’t embrace analytics enough? Did you become enraged if someone said his roster construction was out of date and relied too much on OADs? I definitely don’t give a rip if you agree with anything I say, I’m not going to stop enjoying the give and take of analyzing things. If you don’t like it, there’s no rule that you have to interact with me. It seems you have the disposition that anyone who says anything critical about the coach is your enemy and I find that ridiculous. I’m not offended by your comments, so why you offended by a different point of view? Even one that agrees with the coach you think you are defending?

I think the problem is the UK Cowboys guy doesn’t think anything is warranted with criticism. You’ve seen my posts enough at this point to know I am by no means an anti Pope guy. People get hurt too easy. Calipari also knows a lot more about coaching than all of us. Tom Crean does. Yes, even Jon Sheyer does. We are fans but we can also enjoy breaking things down without going overboard. I see that as something I enjoy, simple as that.

I stayed ranting on Calipari because even though he definitely knew more than I did, there were legitimate times I called things well in advance better than he did. You can be a smart as you want but the id ego and superego…..

I feel like instead of breaking down issues in games, I like to look long term and problems upcoming. I probably make no sense to many. I don’t care about anything other than the protection of this program and retaining the top spot in the majority of statistical categories. We own the vast majority of NCAA D1 categories, and have the most top 5 places in all 60 some odd categories. That’s my obsession. Having Kentucky guys out front calling the shots instead of some ignorant land lord president and fudd AD is my hope. Pope must work long term for the security of this program. It’s obvious if the AD’s office and president / board have their way, they’ll want us to settle for average and be unseen. They’re in this for money and rent payments, not sports, and don’t want to risk what they see as their reputation or be in spotlight. I truly believe that. As long as they get SEC pie money / Nike / etc they don’t want anything else. We Can’t win like that. If it wasn’t for Kentucky men that are no longer here, Calipari would have never coached here. That came from one of the men himself.

To me the X’s and 0’s are not big picture. Seeing Mark through is the big picture. So I don’t want people going hot seat for a good while.

You being critical about conceptual/big picture makes sense to me as a fan. I like to be critical about the micro/day to day. I like being intellectually challenged to notice the difference that tactical adjustments make throughout the game and all that. I don’t expect most people to watch a game 3-4 times. That’s just the way I am. People like the UK Cowboy seem like the only reason they come to the board is to go troll hunting. Most of us are here for something other than to parrot back and forth saying, “This is great!” “Yay”. It doesn’t make sense to me. I’m going to keep doing me and never shut up. I don’t come to boards like this to get high fives or attaboys. I come here to share my analysis and have my thoughts challenged.

Yeah, i like CBB but not enough to watch a game that many times. I do enjoy breakdowns and the like, but at some point I just want to enjoy the product without overanalyzing it. I do that with everything else so its nice to have something I can just watch and enjoy.

Same here lol.
I feel like I'm dealing with a lot in life especially at the given moment. It's nice for at least two hours to just forget everything and just enjoy Cats playing bball.

While that may be true, I’ve noticed you tend to be a lot more like me in the sense that you’re neither a super up and super low guy. You tend to be practical. People tend to expect you to “pick a side” on here and that’s not the way everyone should have to be. You can be pro-Pope but also critical at times.

Same. If we play well....I give praise. If we play like ish.....I give criticism. And If we REALLY play like ish....I get a bit heated.

I hate losing....but what I really hate is losing when you don't even show up. That to me is inexcusable.

Yep. Although I will say most of the time people seem to think I am in one particular camp lol

I remember everyone used to think I was a Cal lover just because I would defend him but I also critized too which people seemed to ignore. Same with Pope lol. I tend to call things how they are lol.

“He says players have to lean into what makes the team special.”

and that is????
He said that after talking specifically about Oweh. He also says it after tying it to a metaphor about himself. He’s asking every player to make plays for their teammates. He’s asking every player to focus on efficiency. He’s asking every player to engage defensively and not take plays off. This is why he said the media is invited to watch the players run “17”s for each time they didn’t sprint back in transition.
