Just reading "on another source" that Oklahoma is targeting Garrick McGee for the same position at Oklahoma. I know OU is OU, but that place is looking more and more like a potentially bad situation with recent events.

If he does leave, you have to wonder if Paul Petrino doesn't come back to the 'ville. He is 2-21 after his 2nd season as head coach at Idaho. Quite frankly, that is a dead-end coaching job and it looks like his head coaching career will be dead sooner than later.

Well hell, I was thinking "WHO is WKU's OC?", as a possible replacement. So, I look it up and it is Tyson Helton...who is also being looked at for OU's OC job. But yeah, Paul Petrino served us pretty damn well under Bobby before.

With everybody talking about OU being "over" Stoopes, that seems to be a dumb move.

BUT...with him being an Alum, maybe he thinks he gets his foot in the door to be the next HC at OU.

Stranger things have happened.

Oh i have no clue if hes unhappy or not. Mcgee is from Oklahoma, born and raised. He has family that still lives there. He played for Oklahoma. Just my opinion.

I think the good news is we are on more of an even field with anyone wanting to hire away our coaches. I haven't seen what our OC is making but our DC is the 6th 0r 7th most highly paid coordinator in college ball. Presuming we have someone we want to keep, we can keep them...going to Oklahoma for the same position is a lateral move IMO (we are better than them right now).

Sometimes I love being wrong. It doesn't happen often, just ask my wi... nevermind.

But Joe Schad is reporting that Mcgee was targeted by multiple NFL teams along with Oklahoma but he will stay with UofL and receive a raise.

This is great news because he's the #1 recruiter for 6'4" WR Brandon Martin.

edited: It's beening reported he turned the interview down. Man...

"I appreciate the offer from Coach Bob Stoops to interview for their vacant OC position," McGee said in a staement. "OU has a special place in my heart, but Bobby Petrino and the University of Louisville are very special to me. I love where our program is headed and I appreciate the investment the university has made in me and my family."

Glad to have an assistant that wants to be here. He tweeted this out about 20 minutes ago.

The college landscape continues to change. As we continue to move forward the competitiveness of the sport will only improve. Louisville isn't losing their assistants to bigger programs because they can compete and they get paid. That just isn't happening at Louisville that is happening across the country. The only thing that will never level out is recruiting but with all the performance training, better coaching and scouting the gap isn't as big as it used to be plus more and more juniors are leaving school early.

The playoff is another step in leveling out the college game.

Interesting to see that he tweeted pictures of his boys. Usually when a guy is happy, and it is just a money thing, the guy wont go if the money is matched, or at least an attempt is made to equalize the situation. You would not want to move your family and upset your wife/daycare/kid friends situation if it was just a lateral opportunity-even as young as his boys are. All things being equal, if you were appreciated and your family was set, you would not want to move them, even if it was your alma mater.
These guys really aren't that much different from anybody else, they just make a lot more money. I have always seen McGee as the "good cop" in the coaching staff, he usually calms the quarterbacks down after Petrino rips them. I think this is a pretty vital role for the offense. As I remember, Paul provided a similar role. He was the player guy, where Petrino was the hammer.

This signals a big change in how the University of Louisville is perceived on the National stage. It would not have happened 10 years ago maybe even 5. It is a big deal. He stayed, did not leave for a "name" school and his alma mater.
