Ol Roy on First Take this morning

Interesting that Roy said that no one has more respect for K than he does. I know that most of us have disdain for Roy, but every now and then he does something that makes it hard for me to dislike him. For instance, he actually gave Singler and Smith a standing ovation after we smashed them in the Acc tournament. Hard for UNC fans to swallow his lack of hate for all things Duke.

If you asked coach 1K what he thought of Roy, he'd say something very similar. In their business, respect for the opposition is essential. It's up to us fans to hate the others.

K did the same thing 2 years before for Hansbrough at the Dean Dome. THR posters will forget that ever happened.

I actually don't think a lot of Duke fans have a *disdain* for Roy. At least I know I don't. I like to bag on him a bit and have some fun at his expense, but he's a good guy, good basketball coach, and by all accounts a pretty good person too. He just coaches for the enemy.

Agreed DJ, Roy just happens to be the coach of a team I do have disdain for. I have no problem with Ol Roy though. I just don't like the teams fans he coaches. If Roy was the Wake coach or the Nebraska coach he would be better however as would his fan base.


What I admire about out fans is we don't hate Roy like the holes seen to hate K.

Yeah. People say the most hateful things about coach 1K. Having never met the man at that. I have always avoided stooping to the level of those fans and kept it mostly civil. A joke about their coach here or there and maybe call him an idiot for making some idiotic comments. But I have never met him, so I can't say anything real hateful about him as their fans do about K.

Very well said, DJ. It's almost exactly how I feel. Now the majority of Heel fans...that's another subject altogether.

I just like poking a little fun at HOF Coach Roy Williams also. He just seems to be always saying something that a typical every day Tar Heel fan would come out and say. The NIT year was full of them. I'm not sure but that might have been the year he tossed the Presbyterian fan. Also Clemson had a pretty good team that year and they put the Heel's away in Death Valley. He made the statement " I wish every body had to play Clemson twice. (We only played Clemson once that year). Also I'm pretty sure he compared UNC's season to that of Haiti and the tragedy of a season that UNC was having. One more thing. I was critiquing his ugly ties and the time and I heard him make a statement about he didn't care who thought his ties were ugly which brought forth my thought that he may indeed read our board. Probably not but it brought a smile to my face. I think he's probably a good fellow. He his our rival's coach and of course that magnifies everything he says or does. He just has a gift of putting his foot in his mouth sometimes and me being who I am can't resist having a good time with it but I would never say or do anything that some people do to Coach K. OFC

I agree that we as Duke fans like to pick at Roy more than we hate him as a fanbase. They, however, could teach the Devil (no pun intended) to hate. K is one of the most respected men in the world, and I have had the pleasure of knowing his family for over 30 years, and can tetify to how classy they really are, but that means nothing over n Chapel Hill. Its kind of sad how much they hate. Doesnt mean you are not rooting for your team if you dont wish death on your rivals.

Ah, Roy is alright I guess. He has told some fibs that make me question his integrity at times. Otherwise, I think he is probably an okay fellow.

Yeah it is. He may seem like a good guy and on some level maybe he is. But look at his violations both at KU and at unx...just the ones we know about. None of that can be diminished. Egregious offenses. Wanna go fishin' with 'im? Hang out? Grab a beer? Fine. But he's pretty dadgum ruthless and the evidence supports it. Kinda thin-skinned when confronted with any of it too. Jus' sayin.' If K is ever caught doing HALF of what Roy has done , I promise ya the tarhole nation ( nor anyone else! ) won't be so forgiving.

Tarhole nation wanted his head when the cheating allegations came to light. They have calmed it down lately, but the real root of their hatred is jealousy.

There flip/flop attitude towards roy over on THR is almost laughable. When they're up and running he's the greatest of all time. When they are struggling he's an idiot.

It's one thing to disagree with coaching, as some on here do when K does something people don't agree with, it's another thing to just degrade a man.
