….. we shoot horribly from the field and foul line against a good team and we still only lose by 4. Hate losing, but we will learn from this. Still early in the season.
You're right, and Clemson just out hustled us, played a little better floor game, and certainly did a very good job defensively. After all that, and on a poor shooting night when almost none of the open looks went down, we only lost by four. A decent effort tonight by our guys, but you know it's probably going their way when they bank in a three and the refrigerator gets 20 rebounds. They played better than we did, and they made us uncomfortable shooting from the arc -- it ain't easy shooting them when there is a physical defense and we're playing catch up the whole game. Yes, we will learn. I think Butler getting into some foul trouble and the surprising physicality of the game hurt us, but our guards also let them have lots of lanes for layups that cannot happen under any circumstances...need to shore up our perimeter on-ball defense. I know our guys will do better Saturday. Good lessons learned. Go Cats!

The way I look at it was we shot poorly and our defense was not afforded the same amount of intensity that our opponent had. And we still almost won. I don’t see that as a moral victory. That’s just a great team having a bad shooting night. That my friends is why the best teams don’t always win the whole thing.

I agree but it doesn't make it any less infuriating, if Butler stays out of foul trouble we win by double figures, he can't keep gambling after he picks up an early foul.

And in those 4 points, 3 of them came off of the typical against Kentucky banked in 3 pointer.

Seriously, how TF does that happen so much. When in tf does the law of averages finally effing kick in.

We got a big one against Wichita State in 2014, but your point stands.

I thought that was a huge play in the game. We were starting to get some momentum then , they bank in a 3 and Williams comes down and sets an illegal screen 40ft from the basket.

He's not wrong, but this is Kentucky damn it. We're so tired of moral victories.
Get a hold of yourself. We faced two very tough teams so far and we beat the tougher one. That’s not a moral victory.

That's absolutely the definition of a moral victory. I'm not panicking. It just sucks. And I'm not going to self soothe with "Well, they were a great team".

lol, get a hold of myself. I haven't made a single "Pope sucks" or taken a shot at any single player. So, don't tell me to get a hold of myself. Thanks.

No it is not remotely.

A moral victory is when you are telling yourself a loss is almost as good as a win. We took a loss and it sucks. But we have earned a lot that makes our season so far and our outlook respectable despite this loss which is not almost as good as a win.

Maybe try to grab a GD defensive rebound. They had 13 offensive boards to our 14 defensive boards in the first half.

It's not like we were gonna go 40-0 or anything, but that's just frustrating. It got better in the 2nd half, but we were already down 7 from there.

I think the cause for concern is the 5 position is going to be a problem if Pope insists on running the offense through Williams. He gets dribble happy with poor handles and doesn’t pose a significant threat to where the D leaves their man to help so kick outs are almost non existent. So if that isn’t changed/fixed the blueprint is there. UK has 2 guys that can drive, Butler and Oweh. Be physical with UK perimeter players, don’t leave to the point of face guarding and UK looks very average.

The lack of shot creation in the half-court is concerning, but the sum of the parts is still legitimate.

Sweet Sixteen ceiling until we get tougher. In year one of the Pope Era, I'm cool with that.
Amen. The worst we shoot from deep, the better it will make us strive to achieve a balanced attack. Which leads to better shooting from deep.
