When did that rule get changed because it had an impact on our overall number of titles.

Did Coach Rupp actually decline the invite or was it a university decision?

Rupp declined to go. The players voted to go and he refused.

UK probably could have won another title or two in the early to mid 50s if not for the points shaving scandal.

They probably would have won it in 52, and probably in 53 as well. They would not have had the undefeated season in 54 though if that happens though because the 3 good players you reference would have graduated in 53.

UK's three best players were ruled ineligible. Rupp let the team vote- they wanted to play in the NCAA, but Rupp vetoed it saying, "I'm not going to let you turds ruin my perfect record."

A good decision on Adolph's part, IMHO. It would not have been the same U.K. team without Cliff Hagan, Frank Ramsey, and Lou Tsioropoulos -- all of whom had been ruled ineligible by the NCAA (as one poster previously noted) because Hagan, Ramsey, and Tsioropoulos were all graduate students. They were all sophomores on the 1951 NCAA National Championship team. When they were seniors, in 1952-53, U.K. was barred by the NCAA from even fielding a team as a sanction for the point-shaving scandals of 1948-49 and the alleged point-shaving issue in 1951. EVERYONE should READ JON SCOTT'S PAGE about the lost 1952-53 U.K. basketball season.

Didn't lose him. Told him to go pro, A. Because he wouldn't get Bledsoe B. not sure Jodie wanted to go from avg 25 a game to around 13

What has not been mentioned is that we somehow won the Helms trophy in '54.

We have won a total of 7 Helms trophies, 2nd to UCLAs 10.

And I'll ask for the 100th time- name an athlete, in any sport, ever, who tore an ACL and played in a competitive situation than 3 months later? We're now talking nearly 20 years later, and you still can't answer that question. Because there isn't one.

The doctor who allegedly cleared Anderson to play should be sued for malpractice. Not playing DA was absolutely, 100%, no question, the right decision.
