@No Chores, @Hungry Jack : I saw this map of most popular adult beverages by state. Is Smirnoff Ice really the most popular beer in Pennsylvania over Yuengling?

This does not surprise me. There are a whole bunch of dumb people in every state who wouldn't know a good beer if they tripped over it. Look at some of the crap that won in other states. The only good ones are Lagunitas IPA in Cal and Guinness in Iowa. Next time you hit your local taphouse or beer store, I'd highly recommend that you pick up some Busch Lite - you'll love it!

Old Row typically just puts stuff out like that for fun to drum up chatter. I don’t think there is any real numbers behind it other than a guy who said let’s make this fun chart.

I hope you're right - but I've been in a number of very good craft beer pubs where people come in several time per week and order nothing but Bud Light in bottles. (I'm in there several times per week as well, so I know this to be a fact!)

I promise you Natty Seltzer isn’t most popular in Georgia, though I did have a gigantic can of Straw-Ber-Ita in Alabama once.

According to image, this data was compiled by the public information and statistics society - P-I-S-S. Seems legit.😂

A) As Lunker said, this type of stuff is typically just put out there to drum up chatter.
B) There is zero chance Guinness is #1 in Iowa. Not saying I agree with it, but it’s Busch Light by a mile. A LOT of people here pride themselves on loving Busch Light. When Iowa played in the Music City Bowl, they pretty much drank Nashville out of Busch Light (not even a joke).

One of our walk-ons a few years ago hailed from Iowa. His family would come to our tailgate for most home games, and would graciously and proudly bring cases of Busch Light. At the time I didn't realize it was a state-wide preference.

Did you know?…

When the St. Louis Browns left town, the Cardinals wanted to change the name of Sportsman’s Park to “Budweiser Stadium”, but Ford Frick didn’t like that unseemly connection of baseball and beer, so he vetoed the name change.

As such, the Busch family renamed the stadium after themselves, for the 1954 season. In 1955, they introduced Busch Beer, apparently improving Iowans lives for eternity.

(For the four years I lived in Iowa, I was a loyal Miller Genuine Draft and Miller High Life (“champagne”) drinker. Take that, Busch family.)

If I'm going to drink cheap beer, which I will do occasionally, I am basically paying for the design on the can. In which case, I'll go with the old local brand, even if it isn't local anymore. e.g., Old Style in Chicago, Natty Boh in Baltimore, Hudepohl in Cincy, and so on. I have no illusion that they are still small independents, I just like the can. Drinking Old Style reminds me of when I couldn't afford anything else at NU. I came from Florida, and my roommate was from the Northeast, and I'll never forget the WTF look on his face when he first took a drink of Old Style. Ah, the memories.

As for microbrews, which have revolutionized the industry in the last couple of decades, particularly in the US. I like them; however, I'd rather grind up pine needles and put it in a Natty Boh than have yet another $9 IPA. Give it a rest.

Oh, it is very much an Iowa thing. And while I am one that prefers beer with more body and flavor, I will admit that after playing a softball game on a hot Summer night or mowing the lawn in the Summer, a cold Busch Light is pretty refreshing. Probably because there is so much water in it. That's a joke, but it's also got a lot of truth to it.

Having grown up in Iowa, I also disbelieve the bit about Guinness being #1 there. It probably isn't even in the top 25. Likewise, this lists Budweiser as #1 in North Carolina. I have lived in N.C. for almost 30 years and NEVER see anyone drinking plain old Bud. If the Budweiser reference includes Bud Light, there is a chance. But I figured Natty Light might be #1.

I can’t believe Michelin Ultra is desired in three states. I might add I am deeply disappointed in The Texans. I bought 12 cans for the tailgate this year. Just in case somebody wanted something light. After 6 games not one was taken. They ended up in the trash.

Now that the beer discussion appears to be over, let's get back to the subject of the original post. The consensus line dropped to Purdue minus 9.

My post was incorrect. Consensus line now Purdue minus 11. Senior reading and typing moment.
Purdue will cover. They have to win out and pray for Whisky and Minnesota to lose to have a shot at Indy if I am not mistaken.

Beer conversation is anything but over.

Illinois’s favorite beer is much more likely to be Guinness than Bud Light.

How could the fans of Chicago’s Big Ten team miss this egregious mistake?
