Opinions on Michigan Punishment

How should (not how will) the NCAA punish Michigan for the sign stealing scandal.

  • 1. I don't or care much at all what happens

  • 2. I don't know much but hope they get hammered just because they are Michigan

  • 3. What they did made a difference but there is no point in punishing them

  • 4. What they did did not make much difference so I'm good with the self imposed punishment

  • 5. What they did did not make much difference so I think a large fine plus self-imposed punishment

  • 6. They need the head coach suspension for the entire year plus a large fine.

  • 7. They need the head coach suspension for the entire year plus a large fine and a 2 year bowl ban.

  • 8. They need vacation of wins and the Natty at a minimum.

  • 9. They need vacation of wins, the Natty, bowl bans, fines and significant head coach suspension

  • 10. Shut down the program

I am interested how most of our fans feel about the Michigan sign stealing scandal at this point.

When grades and graduation don't matter and all that does is the paycheck it doesn't have anything to do with "college" anymore it's just a business- like selling used cars or refuse removal.
Well, I hate to rain on your parade, but the scenario you just described has been going on for years at many programs. Maybe decades? The only difference is now it is out in the open.

of course- but now it's universal- and that's the difference

I chose #7 because I think it is the most stringent punishment the NCAA might impose. I personally would want more but the NCAA is easily intimidated by certain schools.

Little Jimmy coaching the chargers should be punished severely and huge fines
Jim did what he was hired to do by the scum alums…win a Natty.

You and I might not like what he did, but nothing is going to change as a result of his cheating.

This is new age in which we’re living. Cheating and corruption are seemingly rewarded and universally accepted.

UM better not get a slap on the wrist for all the garbage they were doing, when did they have time to coach and play football? What a cesspool.

IF Michigan gets hit hard by the NCAA it will be for the lack of cooperation, the lying, the obfuscation, and other conduct unbecoming. It is being reported that Michigan was given many opportunities to engage in the process and help the NCAA find a solution. They did the opposite. Jimmy sent his staff out recruiting on days the NCAA was on campus to conduct interviews. They attempted to wipe clean cell phones and hard drives. The conduct after the sign stealing came to light was in some ways worse than the cheating. Michigan has been banking on the NCAA revealing it is a paper tiger. We shall see whether their cover-up approach was a good strategy.

My guess is the HC and Coordinator's didn't authorize or participate in the planning of the scheme. I think it became a case of "I don't know how you are getting this data, but it sure is working......I'm not asking questions." It's hard to imagine that eventually, everyone didn't figure it out.
However, there is no debating how helpful it is to know simply run or pass.....left or right. Or magically being in the very best defensive set to counteract what the offense is about to try.
I doubt that the NC will be vacated, simply because the playoff run was clean.
HC suspension, recruiting sanctions and a hefty fine are my guess. I could see a year or two post season ban as well.

The only thing that I want is them to have a 2 year bowl ban. That would impact recruiting as players wouldn't be able to go to bowls, and that would effect the program being able to bring in players looking to go to the playoffs. That would have a bigger impact that a fine or even a multiple game coach suspension.

'What can I get away with' .... is the ever-present mode of the UMich lawyers and their team of Alum assistants. Unfortunately, UMich to every person in that state is a founder of the B10 and above reproach, not to be questioned. Unfortunately ....

Certainly not to those residents who choose to wear green and white.

In the NIL era, bowl bans will have little effect on recruiting. Even if it kept the team from the playoffs.
IMO, it will not be long before players opt out of winnable playoff games. 😞

My wife included, thankfully she left that 'thumb' state while wearing her MSU sweatshirt, BUT A PSU flag now flies prominently in her office, like my office. If you have ever been to the MSU campus, you wonder where 'it' is, and the state of MI never helps by fixing any of the potholes - ever - in college towns, AA and East Lansing or the state capital Lansing.

I honestly don't care. Michigan is a rich and powerful university. Nothing of consequence will happen to them. They cheated. They won. If you want to win, one strategy is to simply cheat because at the end of the day nobody that has any power to do anything will care.

These bums cheating and winning is like a lot of other things happening right now. All you can say is: "St. Pete will have a word with you."

That's it. No recourse. Bad people being rewarded for bad things and rubbing it in your powerless face. Hopefully God will sort it out.

And I'm not religious. Just desperate.
