I'm guessing we'll be learning a lot this week about Oregon. They didn't play particularly well tonight, but you can see they're talented.

Some things I noticed....

-quick and athletic
-dangerous press
-Tyler Dorsey = gamer
-lack offensive firepower in the post, but great post defenders
-already knew this, but Dana Altmann is a very good coach.

I expect to see Oregon open at about -3 or so. We're going to have our hands full but I'm looking forward to Thursday evening. Should be fun!

Oregon is the lesser of two evils. Only factor is the time of play. Weird trying to adjust to west coast. Brandon will not play well. Grayson and Luke will have to step up. Matt Jones need to have zero turnovers and 10-12 points. Chances are slim that this is a cake walk.

The primary thing that jumped out to me watching them is that they are long and athletic. They cover ground quickly defensively. Duke had some trouble with Yale's trapping, and Oregon consistently applied at least 3/4 court pressure last night

If a bracket goes chalk, the 1 and 2 play for a trip to the FF. Doesn't the game w/ the 1-seed get the more advantageous start time, the early spot w/ like, 2-3 more hours of rest?

Maybe Oklahoma is playing at 2 in the morning then?

Oklahoma/A&M tip is set for 7:37 pm E.T. Our game is slated for 10:07 pm, however, it's likely that the Oklahoma game takes longer than 2 hours. I would venture to say more like 10:20 or 10:30 for a start time.

Oregon didn't look like world beaters last night but you never know how a team will play. Hopefully this moment is a little big for them & come out tentative. Remember K saying our guys were nervous early during last years S16 game with Utah.

Do not like 1030 tip on West Coast. Will be difficult for our guys body clocks to adjust.

I think we will be ready...When it was first announced Duke was in West, N&O JUMPED out with a piece all over our boys failures on left coast in tourney play...Thats fine, they had good documentation, BUT I guarantee K made mental note and will EMBRACE the challenge...

I also think (call me a homer) that K's military background instills a discipline which he passes down to players to ADJUST to situations like this...Bottom line, as I have said all along, get to the 2nd week w/G.O.A.T at helm and I will take my chances!!!

Hopefully Ingram and Allen won't struggle, but I can see Oregons quickness giving them fits. Just limit turnovers and if Plumlee and Jeter can do damage like they did against UNCW, I think we win.

Our bigs are better. How many games have we been able to say that?? Allen and Ingram are better than anyone they have on their roster. I don't care where we play or what time or how we've done on the other coast before. This team ain't Arizona with a dude that'll explode for 40 or whatever's we will win and march to the final 4

St. Joes was up 7 with 5 minutes left and the ball, then fell apart. They rebounded much better than Oregon, I'd still have rather played St. Joes, but their rebounding edge would have worried me.

Some opinion on Oregon....
1. They are the only Pac12 team left, so the fact that they won the Pac12 season and the tournament, doesn't make me believe that they are "world-beaters."
2. They play a "4 out 1 in" offense, which should play into our hands defensively and rebounding wise, provided we can keep there guards out of the lane.
3. My biggest worry is the fact that they have 2 LONG LENGTHY shot blockers, guys like that have given Grayson and Brandon fits this season when they drive the lane. However, these guys are not big and bulky, just really long, so at least they shouldn't destroy us on the glass.
4. There leading scorer Dillon Brooks is going to annoy the heck out of us during this game, trust me, think "Zack August type annoying" he is very strong and Matt Jones should be guarding him, if Matt can take him out of the game, I think we should be fine.
5. They play the same type of Match-Up zone that Louisville plays, if we can beat the matchup zone like we did in the 1st half AT Louisville, I believe we should cruise in this one.

We will need to play our best game of the season each and every game going forward if we want to win, but I think we are capable of beating anyone on any given night. The emergence of Chase has given us the depth we need to hang in there for 40 minutes.

I've seen Oregon play much better than they did last night, and they are a #1 seed for a reason. If we can keep Dillon Brooks under control (he really seems to make them go offensively), and keep Tyler Dorsey from really getting engaged, I like our chances.
Marshall could have a monster game (double/double) if he just plays, and I think we will need it. We must also have Grayson, Brandon, and hopefully Luke really locked in. Three (3) double digit scorers would give us a great chance in this game. Chase(?) could really do well in this one.
We have played great in the second half of one game, and great in the first half of one game, now let's put a complete game together, and survive and advance!
Go Duke!!

line is only Oregon - 1.5. My biggest concern is foul trouble in this one

The press they displayed at the end of the St Joes game has me worried. Throughout the year, we have struggled when teams pressure us at the end of games.
However though, if Oregon is pressing, it most likely means we are winning.....DT, Grayson, Luke, and Matt better be ready to handle the rock though.

You mean you won't Matt Jones in the game to guard their best scorer, the same guy that half of y'all have bitched and moaned about. The guy that's too slow, can't drive, and can't shoot.

He can't drive and he can only shoot when wide open but he can play D

This is one game that I would like for Duke to play zone, if we go man I think Oregon will have the advantage with their guards able to drive and finish or drive and penetrate. Duke really needs Matt Jones Kennard and Thornton to play well on both ends of the court. Plumlee and Jeter needs to be very active on the boards on both ends of the court. Duke has to limit them from getting rebounds and being able to get dunks or put backs.

Let's just remember that we've reached reasonable expectations at this point. Time to really have fun with this game, no matter the outcome. We have been going at it with 6 guys most of the year, with Chase coming on we have 7. Four of those 7 are freshmen. We lost our whole starting 5 from last season. When is the last time a team has made the Sweet 16 after losing their entire starting 5? Let's enjoy this next one.

I agree. But I've been around these parts long enough to know it won't be pretty on this board if and when we lose.

Well, by the end of last season Matt was starting ahead of Amile, but yes, we are down 5 of the 8 players from last year's roster.

We've played to our seed. Now I'm going to get greedy. When was the last time we won an NCAAT game as the worse seed? I think we wore blue against MSU in the '99 FF for some reason.

I agree, heck I've enjoyed all of them! The only thing I've disliked was the last game when a lot of our posters were calling for Matt to be out of the game. I know he's not the player he was before he got hurt, but I've always thought he played good defense and he's another body we need.

Not to be a debbie downer, but UK does this almost every year (not this year though!!!)
While we have reached reasonable expectations, our draw and current match up has me wanting more. And I am going into the game with the full expectations of coming out victorious.

We were both 1 seeds for that game, but not sure who was technically lower.

The last time we beat a higher numbered seed was 1990, #3 seed Duke beat #1 seed UConn to get to the Final Four. We did it the year before in 1989 as a #2 seed, beating #1 seed Georgetown.

We just haven't been in many tourney games as the lower seed, a good thing.

Duke being Duke, they don't get to be the "plucky underdog" very often. When you are a consistently high seed, wins over higher seeds can usually only come in the last weekend or so. Does a #1 beating a #1 (last year's National Championship) count?
