A buddy told me that Oregon coming to the B1G is a foregone conclusion.

No word on anyone else - Washington, Colorado, Stanford, Cal, or whomever.

Any other sources out there?

Should be Stanford or maybe Cal. but it will likely be Washington.

Have it on good authority that every college football team from D1 to D3 will be joining the Big Ten!

Doesn't sound like it's anywhere near a conclusion at this point.
Oregon, Big Ten Begin Preliminary Expansion Discussions in Chicago

Oregon has initiated preliminary discussions with the Big Ten in Chicago to determine if the Ducks are compatible in the conference, sources told Action Network.

Outgoing University of Oregon President Michael Shill, Oregon AD Rob Mullens and Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren were not involved in the discussions in Chicago, another source said.

Only way it's a done deal is if a network (most likely would have to be ESPN) is willing to pony up the $ for a 4th, late night B1G time slot and/or Phil Knight is willing to have Nike sign a lucrative, long term sponsorship deal w/ the B1G.

Personal side story...I went to Eugene once because I had friends living in Portland at the time and wanted to experience the legendary noise of Autzen Stadium firsthand.
2016. Rebuilding year for Oregon. They lost the game 70-21. You coulda heard a pin drop in there, so I did not get the full Autzen experience.

I think that sweetens the deal in my mind. I think getting into the Bay is a bigger priority for the B1G. Oregon could be a dominant player in the Big12 and maybe a more natural fit.

Personally I'd rather see Stanford but in the end this coast to coast league is kind of ridiculous to begin with and I am content to roll with it and see it play out.

Despite what press releases may say, I honestly don't think media markets matter in the same way they have in the past when it comes to priorities. The carriage fees discussions that went on when Rutgers and UMD were on the table are quickly becoming afterthoughts as the streaming landscape kills cable and satellite. And although I may definitely be mistaken, I don't perceive Northern Cal to be a talent-rich area, especially now that the league has cornered the market in SoCal.

I would love to see Stanford make the cut, but I do think Oregon is a more logical choice (if it's a question of "either/or") - deep, perpetual commitment to athletic excellence basically forever with Phil Knight money. And Phil isn't about to let Oregon languish in the Big XII, where they could win the championship year-in and year-out and still be excluded from future playoffs.

I don't think thats bad but I'd rather win the Big XII than languish in the PAC"whatever is left". The Ducks are sexier than Stanford and it least gives USC/UCLA something to be up for on their coast. I don't totally hate the Oregon idea but I can't justify it on the market argument.

Both schools have key assets that would interest the B1G. Maybe I'm adding both and telling ND to have a nice life.

On the Notre Dame point...I know we never will, but I'd be fine with strategically leaving them with no options - move forward with whatever our plans turn out to be, and don't factor them into what's next. I get the obvious value and cachet they potentially add to the Big Ten brand, but wouldn't it be funny if the final chapter of this love affair that isn't...is that they get left without a dance partner or a tv deal?

Have heard Washington is also extremely interested.

I still think it all comes down to Notre Dame, who would probably prefer to have Stanford join so their longstanding rivalry game is a conference game.

My money is on Notre Dame, Stanford, Washington, and Oregon to get the B1G to the 20 teams that Commissioner Warren has discussed publicly.

Incorrect. The TV deal that was just sign includes escalators for additional teams, though Notre Dame is the only team mentioned explicitly in the contract.

Have to think NBC already being involved in the B1G TV contracts moves the needle on the Notre Dame side.
