Heads up.

Anyone interested in a damn good deal on some media software might want to head over and check this out. I've had their V1 suite on my studio rack for a few years, and I can vouch it is legit and damn close to being just as good as Adobe Photoshop, with only a handful of features/effects missing.

It's on sale for $41 until I believe December 14th...one time payment, no monthly Creative Cloud fees.

They also have Designer (Illustrator) and Publisher (InDesign) for the same price, or you can get all three for $100. Plus they give you creative license to install and use across Mac, Windows and iPad iOS.

I am just saying. :)

I am just a Hack/Geek/Nerd, but I find the Affinity Suite to be a great deal and intuitive for those of us who just play around.

Yeah it's really powerful and for the $ can't be beat...some features like color replacement brush tool is actually superior in my opinion to Adobes offering.

How do you like Publisher? I have it but usually use InDesign since it's tied into Acrobat on my production machine. Ditto for Designer.

TLDR - I like it, but I don't get to learn it as well as I should.

Full disclosure, I am a technical trainer by trade, and we have a lady who handles the courseware.

My company is entirely into Adobe. The marketing department, training, etc.

So, I only get to do a little of the courseware design. Also, I got rid of Creative Cloud here at home.

So far I like Designer and Photo very much. I have stayed with Pages for my personal Instructor Guides so far.

I want to get stronger with the whole suite.

However, work and The Paddock take up too much time. ;)

I am also working on getting stronger in Final Cut, Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, R.M.E. Total Mix, iZotope Ozone, Neutron, etc.

Over Christmas I will be shooting and producing some videos for a musician buddy of mine. So there is that side to consider as well.

When I saw your post with the Cat Zone added. I considered taking it and adding an Ouija Board.

Then a squirrel ran past my window, and I realized I needed to get back to work. :)

Hell, I might be a touch A.D.D.

Edit: I also have Lightsaber practice with @TheFrontRunner at least one night a month.

Yeah most of my collaborators and clients think Adobe hung the moon...only reason I keep Creative Cloud is to pacify them, plus it's a write-off...so in the end it's a wash... 🤷‍♂️

Nice to see someone dare to take on the mighty Adobe and take a big wet bite out their *** as well. I don't know how they make $ selling it as cheap as they do, and still support it like they do.

You ever try DaVinci Resolve?

I have Davinci Resolve, a great product, and I recommend it to friends.

I briefly went down the OBS path for online tutorials. NOPE.

I got an ATEM Mini Pro, leading me to Blackmagic and DaVinci. They seem like a good company.

But I found Final Cut and Logic Pro to be more to my taste.

I apologize for hijacking and cluttering your thread. :(

I don't know about 24 hour...but hey it's the slow season for me right now, so feel free to hit me up.

My guess is there's a ****-ton of walk thru's and demos on YouTube...

I haven't used it for a while, but they actually have a pretty nice online forum...

I believe you can also download a free trial to check it out before you buy, at least they used to.

No worries...probably since FCP is just so intuitive compared to AVID or AP...

I like playing around in Motion because it's just so damn fun...

That is what I tell people.

Apple, Affinity, etc., seems much more user-friendly than Adobe, Avid, etc.

To me, as a casual user, at least.

Truthfully, for my hobby/basic stuff, iMovie, Garageband, Keynote, Pages, Photo, etc., would have been more than capable.

But, for an old single guy like me, the money I spend on tech geek stuff is better for my health than hookers and coke..... At least, that is what my daughter keeps telling me.

Edit: ...or words to that effect. I might have interjected a bit of artistic license there.

There are a lot of good Photoshop alternatives (to varying levels of complexity at least) but sparingly few for InDesign or Illustrator. Affinity products are legit. Used it quite a bit when I used to have a job where I used these types of products regularly. Would be all over buying this if I were still in need of this type of software.

Love Affinity. They just released Version 2. I use it for Web Design/Development.
So can you export to HTML from Publisher? I haven't been involved in web development for nearly two decades...I manually built pages and uploaded to a server in batches...man that was a PITA... [laughing]

I use Affinity Designer for logo design and things like that for web. I haven't used Publisher, but there's tools like Webflow that let you build like that.

I think we might need an ongoing Tech Geek Thread. :)

You guys kill me.

Please explain what I’m buying in the most dumbass language possible. I had trouble combining 15 PDF’s into one PDF for a grad project this week. That’s how awful I am and y’all ain’t helping. I used preview and before this I didn’t know what preview was.

I’m buying this for some reason I’m hoping to do with pics and videos but I don’t know exactly what it means.

Please slow down and explain for me.

First step:

Get Affinity, and then you can make those cool "fake pics" you search for late at night when no one is around.

I guess you can make daytime pictures, too, if you are into that sort of thing. I am not one to judge. ;)

Truthfully, the other guys in this thread are probably way more advanced with this stuff than I am.

Seriously though.

  • Affinity Photo - "Adobe Photoshop"
  • Affinity Publisher - for making books, pamphlets, flyers, etc. - "Adobe Indesign."
  • Affinity Designer - for making graphics, etc. (Adobe Illustrator)
I hope I am correct and it will help you a bit.
