OT-Any Home Theater or Audiophile folks out there?

Thought I’d throw this out to check if any of you fellow PSU brethren are into Home Theater or Audio and would care to share your system details.

I have somewhat of a mid-fi theater setup. 7.2.6 channel. Room is roughly 15 x 24 with 8 ft ceiling

Denon 6700 receiver with Emotiva 3 channel running my fronts and center.
SVS Ultra Evolution Titan fronts and Ultra center
4 Niles InWall surrounds
6 Sonance 6.5” ceiling for Atmos
2 SVS PB2000 subs

Epson LS12000 Laser projector onto a 150” Screen Innovations white screen.

Love the hobby and would love to hear about other setups!

I have downsized my setup over the years. I have a Sony ES receiver running 5.1 surround sound. I really don’t need more channels than that. Front speakers are my 1985 Ohm Walsh 4’s which still sound absolutely incredible, Polk center channel speaker and ceiling mounted Mirage speakers for rear surrounds. Running TiVo box, Sharp Blu ray player, Sony CD recorder, Teac cassette deck and Thorens TD-320 turntable into the receiver.

In the pre surround sound days, I had all separates. Soundcraftsman amp and pre-amp with equalizer, Carver tuner, 2 Sony CD jukeboxes, Sony stereo VCR and the above mentioned components.

Do you watch PSU football on that setup?

Yes indeed. It’s great when watching 4 games at once by splitting it into quads, with each game being 75”...but PSU games deserve the full 150” of glory.

Yeah, we switched over a couple years ago. There were a few glitches at first but now their system is working perfectly. It is seamless to configure where you want music and what music from your library you want. The Soundbars below each flat screen are excellent and all the other speakers work and sound great as well. I was skeptical at first but really love the ease with which the system allows you to work, especially with two properties and multiple flat screens, speakers, etc .

I love Sonos…especially the convenience and quality sound of the Sonos ecosystem. My wife loves the small Sonos One in the shower. Waterproof and built in Alexa. No need to Bluetooth to a speaker.

We also have a Sonos Amp connected to Sonance outdoor speakers and sub around the pool. Best Buy often puts these on sale throughout the year…6 speakers, a partially buried subwoofer and the Sonos Amp. Very nice sound, but have to run a single wire out to hook everything up in series…so had to dig a trench for that...but after that, just use your phone for choosing music.

Have a basic 5.0 system, Denon S730 and Polk RTIA's. Don't use it much for surround sound lately. Use it more for the built in HEOS system on the Denon for music, Thinking of upgrading all componments after retiring later this year.
Anyway, though I don't consider myself an audiophile, I do enjoy watching Paul McGowan/PS Audio video's on Youtube.

Pinnacle fronts, Polk center, Paradigm powered sub. Not sure how I got stuck on P, but they are all good speakers.

Like most people, I went from small and cheap to big and expensive over a lifetime, now I'm back to what I know works. My kids have bigger setups, put together from some of my old gear.

How would you rate the picture quality of the 150" laser projector vs the better/best TV technologies currently available (QLED, OLED)?

The picture quality is really good. Surprisingly good for a projector. It doesn’t get the deep deep blacks that OLED TVs get but the laser doesn’t dim over time like lamp projectors, and it has a 20,000 hour life, which should give me 10 good years. It is very sharp and colorful, but light control is necessary unless you get a decent ALR screen. My theater is very light controlled with dark walls and ceiling, so a white screen works great for me.

That's cool. My old Infinity and B&W speakers and a Yamaha rx3000 will be going to one of my kids soon.

HT and Audio is a crazy (and sometimes silly $$$ hobby). My wife has no idea the amount of money I have spent (and frankly wasted) on the components that I have replaced in my HT system over the past 20 years - all to gain that " " minimal gain in transparancey/automation/resolution.

In the 20 years I have had my system the AV environment went from 36"TV's to 480P DVD's to 1080P HD, to 4KHD (and now 8K making its way into more content). Large screen viewing had to be done via projectors.

Over the years I have purchased (and replaced) two SONY VPL-100 projectors (for a JVC DILA 4K), two 106" retractable high reflective screens, a Kenwood 400 CD/DVD carasosel changer (2 years later - Oppo Blu Ray player - 2 years later an Oppo 4K Blu-Ray). To now - streaming everything on an Apple TV4K...

Processor has been an ANTHEM 50V - upgraded then to an ANTHEM 60since the 50V could not process 4K switching). Main Amplifier is an ANTHEM MCA 5 Channel (200 wpc) . My L/C/R front speakers are (now out of business but sound outstanding!) 72" in-wall Bohlender Graebner Planar Magnetic speakers. A Parasound amp powers 2 in-ceiling Paradigm speakers. This combined with an Energy Subwoofer (Energy was acquired by Paradigm) completes my 7.1 system. All speaker wire and interconnects are WireWorld.

For my whole house system I use a Mirage 5 channel headunit which powers speakers in kitchen, workout room, and three outdoor sets of speakers (NEAR). These components are all hardwired - meaning I have speaker cable fished/running thru walls, behind trim work etc...

The irony - All of the above could now be replaced with a well designed wireless/streaming SONOS system. In fact, I now do most of my viewing and listening on our family room 55" plasma TV with a SONOS sound bar using TIDAL thru the SONOS app...

just absolutely crazy how wireless connectivity and streaming has really changed the AV landscape...
