I'm a big fan. For me, he is to the NFL what Blackledge and Danielson are to college football .

He's pretty good when he doesn't have his head up Aaron Rodgers ***. If the Packers are playing I can't listen to him.

I don't like him as an announcer. I think he makes some good points but at other times he is just plain wrong. Like last night, he made a comment, something like "there's so many penalties on punt and kick returns, I think people should fair catch all punts and let all kickoffs go into the end zone." That is absolutely wrong. And Aaron Rodgers isn't the only playing he fixates on. If you have a challenging name to say, Collinsworth will try to say it as many times as possible.

Agreed. And the folksy, "aw shucks" attitude reminds me a little too much of HOF Coach Roy Williams.

I really like to hear him. He has a great delivery, knows the game and has just enough sense of humor. Liked him as a player also. Very underrated receiver. OFC

Totally agree! He is absolutely the best in the game right now. He has always been funny - but his analysis and articulate of the game has really improved (he wasn't so great at that when he entered the booth - but he has really improved). There have been several games this year where his analysis was exceptionally insightful.

I didn't like him when he first came on the scene because he was short on analysis and big on being a bit goofy. But, that has been seriously transformed.

Really love his work. And you know that he works hard at his craft as he has significantly improved.

Great observation, Sky.

Crazy, are you suggesting that fair catching all punts and taking a touchback on all kickoffs is the way to go? I'm not looking to fight with someone here, but I find it incredibly hard to believe that stats would agree with this. It's easy to be frustrated as a fan when your team gets penalized and starts with bad field position. But that occasional return for a TD (which would no never happen if you fair caught punts and downed all kicks) is a game changer.

Funny you say this. I'm personally not a big NFL guy, if I was I'd be considered a Pack fan. Most Pack fans I know have a strong dislike for Collinsworth, and Buck/Aikman for that matter..... The question I pose is who do they like?? I personally enjoy all of the above.

Off topic but i use to really enjoy Brad Nessler doing Duke Games! Is he still around?

Did he say that should be the rule or that should ppl do it all the time. Because he's right there are SO many penalties that happen it's ridiculous. Your team would likely benefit more often if you always did that. He was likely exaggerating in response but there is some truth in it

He said teams should choose to do it - not that it should be the rule. He was making the argument (the same one I think you are making) that there are so many penalties that teams would benefit from just fair catching punts and downing kickoffs. Here's at least one study that says he is at least wrong about the kickoffs thing. I didn't look for any about punts but I bet he is wrong there too. It's just too high reward of a play for teams to not take a shot. You occasionally get a penalty that hurts your field position. But the risk is worth it to potentially score on that play.
