My Father in Law, age 86, just served me Clan MacGregor Scotch. He was proud of it. He said: “best Scotch at a great price. I want you to try it”.

Anyone on here ever had this crap? Tasted like caca pants. I mean truly horrible.

So did you tell him the truth or let him think you liked it?

I got a co-worker that talks about scotch all the time. He's mentioned Clan McGregor. He's the type that will swear that Shieldag is as good as the stuff it's sourced from. I guess if you're buying home wreckers of the stuff. LOL

Do you buy any blended scotch whisky?

How do you drink the good stuff? Neat or OTR? Glencairn, shot glass or rocks glass?

Funny. Now, I want to go have a dram of some good scotch.

Prob why he gave it to you, thinks the same of you, haha

That's funny. You're good enough for Clan McGregor.

The only blended Scotch I drink is Johnny Walker

I see you like the peaty Islay Scotches. So do I. But I also agree with your high ranking of Balvenie. Great Scotch. I also like Glen Morangie

I've got Glen Morangie and like it too. Have you had Redbreast? I know it's an Irish whiskey, but it is prob in my top 3 all time fave.

Redbreast? Never had it. But I must say, lately I have been enjoying the fresh and light taste of Irish Whiskey. Never much liked them. Boring. But growing in my respect for them lately

Ok. Let's be honest here. Redbreast is owned by the same company that owns Jameson. That's where the similarity ends. Still distilled separately. If you like Balvenie, you'll love Redbreast. Made from a single pot. The old fashioned way. I think I prefer sherry casks at some point in the maturation process. Oak is great for strong flavor, but Sherry just mellows all that out. I also think that Glenfiddich 12 year old is fantastic. Can't beat the price for what you get.

Sherry casks are my new standard of excellence. Can’t be beat. Glenfiddich is good. But my favorite Scotch is Ardbeg

Go get you a fifth of Redbreast. It's around $55 around here. Well worth it. You'll thank me later. I'll expect no less. :D

If I can find it. Pennsylvania has the second most repressive liquor laws in the country. All booze must be bought from State run stores. And selection is minimal. I usually to to Jersey to look for stuff. I will look for it there

Once Total Wine opened in Arlington I was a goner. Great prices and incredible selection. I couldn't find a beer that resdog recommended, but other than that...

My condolences. Terrible excuse for scotch.

JW Blue is the best I've tried to date.

Gotta be Utah. Same situation with state run stores, but you can’t even buy a damn Budweiser with its full % of alcohol.

On the flip side, you get High West straight from the source.
