Just want to remember and honor all those courageous and great Americans who gave their lives and those who survived the storming of the beach at Normandy, France. They not only preserved we Americans freedom that day but liberated our European allies. It's now been 71 years and I sometimes wonder if all these countries really understand and appreciate what happened that day. I hope they do. OFC

I always think about what that scene might have looked like, hundreds of thousands of young men, waiting in the fog, knowing they'll be running into direct fire. The bravery and group determination is awe inspiring. It truly is our greatest generation.

Thanks for starting this thread, Sky. It's not just other countries that I worry about forgetting the sacrifices, it's our own people.

I'm 35 and I love history. I have a 28 year old girlfriend that knows really nothing about it and the impact those people made on the whole world to this day....it kills me inside

My son is 10. He loves everything WWII. He has read many books on the events that day and just finished reading Killing Patton. At such a young age he knows more than some adults three times his age. I've told him many stories about his great grandfather who served. The men lost that day were the greatest generation EVER! I am so glad that I got to spend time with my grandpa and hear the stories from his time overseas.
