His 2021 season, according to his bio, included 10 games with six starts at safety...Tallied a career-high 36 total tackles and added one interception, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble...Opened the year with a career-best seven-tackle performance against BYU.

Yep - they brought in a few transfers that went ahead of him

Not sure if this is what Gunner is playing, but they used to play a "Viper" - a safety that comes up for run support. If that is what his role is, would be interesting, because the knock on him at NU was that he was a terrible tackler.
