Inspired by the thread about Cowtown entering the portal yesterday, I thought it would be fun to list your favorite ice cream places that also serve great burgers and other sandwiches. List as many as you want so we can all discover great new places to visit. I will start with these.

Dairy Barn (Burgin)
Bud and Cheryl's (near Danville)
Burger Barn (Lancaster)
Crisp's (Ashland)
Chiggers (Vanceburg)

Homies - Shepherdsville (Bullitt Co). At least in 1993. Probably closed a long time ago. Pool, ice cream, live music, beer. It was a go to in high school.

I wish there was a separate board where we could discuss all topics NOT basketball related.

The old G.D. Ritzies at the corner of Clays Mill and Harrodsburg Rd. Was a place I loved as a kid.
A new place in Richmond opened up not too long ago called Freddy's and it's as close to GD Ritzy's as I've seen, although like Ritzy's was at the time compared to other like places, it's expensive. Prepare to sit in line for a while though because apparently everyone else loves it also.

Freddy's for the burger. now that Ritzy's has departed.

No ice cream. Lactose-intolerant. Less drastic but just as fast as one of those dramatic peanut allergies.
Wife has the same issue - but Graeter's now has a few lactose free flavors...not quite as good as the real thing but apparently close enough.

Several years ago, I made my own ice cream by using lactose-free milk + cream. There really isn't much of a taste-difference. For frozen treats, I now go the sorbet route so it's not as if I'm suffering here.

Steak n' Shake wins for chain places, IMO.
There's an America's Test Kitchen clip about how to make smashburgers which are the kind of burger we've come to prefer. Steak 'n' Shake, Ritzy's, Freddy's. They all make a variety of smashburger. To get that flavor, roll up 4 oz of ground beef into a ball. Drop the meatball on your hot cooking surface. Then, take a heavy pan -- aluminum foil on the bottom if you want -- and crush the meatball as thin as you can. Cook it 2 minutes on 1 side. 1 minute on the other. Easy-peasy. After we tried that, we quit making burgers the old fashioned way. BTW, those timings depend on how thin you smash it. Don't want anyone eating undercooked force meat.

In the clip, they cook 4 patties to make 2 burgers. With a slice of cheese in-between. We're too old for that much cholesterol now. 1 patty is fine.

One warning. You really need a quick release surface for your cookware or you'll leave a lot of burger behind on the pan.

With your screen name, and this thread, you didn't have any connection to the burger joint of the same name, did you?
? Nope. Not making the connection. I grew up outside Indy and we have SnSs around here. Love everything on the menu.

Those aren’t new. Freddy’s are all over Indiana. They are good but not great. Steak ‘n Shake meets GD Ritzy. Bubbs burgers in Indy and Bloomington are great.

I don't live in Indiana, I live in Central Ky. and it's new to us. My son and I prefer Freddy's to Steak and Shake.

Back in the day..... Taylor's Pool Hall in Richmond. No ice cream but world famous cheeseburgers.
Oh yeah! The cook Marvin had cooking them was a character, lol, always had a cigarette in his mouth, with the ashes ready to fall off while he cooked.
Marvin used to call me to weld that cook top any time it cracked and always sent me with a sack full of those delicious burgers.

Btw, do you remember Buckhorn?

That was a great burger.

DUDE!!! My Blood Pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol went up 50 pts each just looking at that.
Many years ago, we took a trip with my mother-in-law to South Carolina. We got to Darlington around noon and started to look for a place to eat. We soon found a place named Fats. Darlington, South Carolina. Fats. My inexperienced mother-in-law said, "I wonder what kind of food they serve?"

They no doubt use that 80% beef. 80% fat.

I'll admit it's been a while since I've been to one so perhaps they have changed but last time I ate at a SnS I seem to recall it being near the bottom of my fast food joint rankings. I especially couldn't stand their shoestring french fries. Thought they were so bland. Again, maybe they have changed. And I can't comment on the shakes as don't recall ever having those.

Done when it floats to the top of the oil, baby!
There was a little window service spot in Hardinaburg on the corner of Hwy 60 across from the school like that. Could hear the grease popping when you drove up. Finger licking nasty good.
