Birthday of Neil Diamond, American singer and songwriter. 38 of his songs have been in the Top 10 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts, of which 10 were #1 singles. All told, he has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Of course he may be best known for Sweet Caroline, performed by the fans at Beaver Stadium.

lol. No. I just don’t know what it is. It’s just so corny. I don’t get how it fits into a sporting event either.
Agree. I enjoy Neil's music but I think its an uninspired choice for a football game.

I've been a fan but had no idea the breadth of his career until I read his Wiki page a few years ago. He was in the same chorus as Barbara Streisand in high school and wrote many of the Monkey's hits. Crazy life.

As a kid, I misheard and thought that 'Forever In Blue Jeans' was 'Reverend Blue Jeans.'

Like a lot of Neil's songs. However, I have always hated 'Sweet Caroline,' long before it became mandatory at sporting events.

The last straw for me is that commercial on TV for bourbon with everyone singing it in the bar. I can no longer tolerate it.
I have been to a bar where they did that. Perhaps that is part of my beef with it also?

It's a shame that PSU never got him to lead Sweet Caroline at a Whiteout game. There's no better environment.

I remember listening to him on my 8 track and watching The Jazz Singer on my Betamax. Also got to see him live before he retired.

They used to play and sing that on Saturday nights at Paul’s Tavern in South Belmar, NJ in the early 90s. I am not a fan of Neil Diamond at all, but I loved that!
