Of Illini Basketball, they had never started out as poorly as 2-7. Until now... #lolillinimakinghistory

Given the attendance at the United Center tonight (5,285!!!) it appears that most Illini fans have indeed already shifted their attention to football season
To be fair, a lot of the Bulls fans who mistakenly showed up tonight at the UC were actually encouraged by how much better the "Bulls" played tonight than usual.

I watched most of the game to revel in Illini misery. However, the Illini will cause NU trouble. They are one of the few B1G teams that play an aggressive, scramble defense, always cheating into the passing lanes. And they played a ranked OSU team down to the wire and never gave up. They play hard. They foul a LOT.

And once again Underwood showed what a buffoon he is. He had to be restrained by one of his players from going after a ref after a no-call in the last minute. Guy was completely out of control. I think the refs taunted him by not giving him the technical he wanted to get. He won't last long in Shampoo-Banana.

Agreed. Our ballhandling and passing will be as well tested here as in a lot of games.

Weber had his faults (not a great recruiter), but was better than what they've hired since. He's actually had a good team at Kansas State, which certainly has not been the mecca of basketball programs, the past couple of years. Illinois has managed to turn what should be a perennial top-25 program into crapola. Underwood at present does not have the talent on offense to run the wide-open system he likes. You're going to create havoc with a pressing defense, but you're also going to give up a lot of points on some nights, so you're going to need guys who can shoot the rock. If he doesn't pick up the recruiting he won't be around long.

Hmmm, who could've told Illini fans Weber's value BEFORE they drove him out? Who could have told them they completely overvalued the historical significance of their program? Who could've told them they were foolish to overpay for a coach with one year of P5 experience? Who could have POSSIBLY seen that coming?

Oh, that's right!! Me and many others.

Such a dumb fanbase. And at this point, an even more foolish athletic administration.

My sympathy goes out to the few more realistic Illini fans. They shouldn't be in this deep a hole.

Shows you how difficult it is to pick coaches. Phillips deserves a lot of credit for his two basketball hires and for retaining Fitz.
