When I post, my toolbar is inactive, gray. This is recent. I tend to use italics quite often and now I can’t. Can’t add images or YouTube videos, either.
You may have hit the preview icon (page with magnifying glass) on the top right. See those sets of three vertical dots between icons? Hit one and it should take you out of preview mode.
