OT: Mary Hardin Baylor WBB dismissed after tirade. Would the coach of a men's team have been fired for the same?

What say you? Would the coach of a men's sports team have been fired for the same thing?

3 years?! You enjoy 40 point losses that much?!
I dislike losing as much as anyone. What did you expect with Frank's leftovers and a team made up of transfer portal so-called players and a 17 year old kid that's the best player on the team? That's the reason I say it's going to take 3 years or more, if you can't see that then you don't know basketball. Don't mean to be harsh here just stating the facts..

What I expected was a team, regardless of talent level, to pass the eye test of being a squad that is well coached, plays with effort, & appears to have an offensive/defensive identity. NONE of that is there. We stand around, often have players playing 1 on 5, & regularly put forth minimal effort on the defensive side of the ball. Talent....smalent.......this team gives off the perfect portrayal of a poorly coached & undisciplined team.

Coaches are teachers first. No, this isn't acceptable - not to me.
I can see trying to draw a distinction between the male and female teams. But to me, coaches do this sort of thing, sometimes it's even planned, and I consider the team to be comprised of adults too.

I can see both aspects. As I am not in favor of cursing in general, no I don't personally approve of his language here.

However, names like Mike Kryzewski and Bob Knight come to mind. They would cuss their players up one side and down the other. Yet, nobody would deny they were among the best basketball teachers of all-time.

I guess what it boils down to is: should a male coach treat female players differently than he would treat male players?

Again, I don't personally approve the language, but I don't think anyone would bat an eye if this had been a men's team.

You are correct. Would a female coach giving the same roasting to her female team be fired?

Many coaches today have no clue, or just dont care, how they treat anyone. I heard one person say the other day that coaching is the last legal form of child abuse.
That aside, coaches seem to think yelling and cussing is cool but its not. My oldest is working as an intern for a FBS football program and helps with all recruiting weekends. The team she works with has a few new assistants and she likes some but cant stand others.
Just last week they had several recruits visiting and she was assisting with hotel check-ins of players and parents and one player and his Mom asked the coach where the elevators were, the coach turned to my daughter and said "Im not sure but this little fu*#er here will help you." No smile as in a joke or anything. Not only was my daughter stunned, but the parent made it very visible that she was offended that he referred to a female in that way. Her son (the recruit) was stunned as well. Needless to say they didnt get that player.
Coaches need to take a step back and learn how to talk to those helping them, the players that play for them and others, in such a way as to lead, inspire and ignite a fire in them WITHOUT the screaming, cussing and insults.
The coach in the video could have gotten his message across without the insults and language. If he was any good at his job he would have known how

That guy must have been on drugs, what an insane way to talk to your players, especially with them being female, shows no respect, should have put his rear in the jailhouse.

Jailhouse - no. Coaching young people, and I don't care if they are legally adults - no.

I would say they are nominally Christian, at best. Don’t wanna get off into politics etc so not worth elaborating.

Strike 1.......... ------- I thought they wanted "equality" ......

Oh, right, my bad........ they outwardly say they want "equality" / so long as they can pull their double standard card at the drop of a dime and turn into a 'fragile female.'

The hypocrisy and double standards are disgusting. You wanted to be treated like an equal? Fine. Don't turn on the water works and boo hoo's then. Put your big girl britches on and deal with it. God forbid they give up those up those double standards though......we can't have that.

I agree about equality, I disagree with the trash talking, very belittling and that kind of language was not necessary.

LOL...I read the title to this thread and thought it was going to be about a Baylor coach named Mary Hardin. :ROFLMAO:

To the question at hand...I suppose that kind of stuff happens all the time at practice, as it probably should when an extra dose of discipline is needed. I'm not a fan of that kind of behavior at a game, however, where players are dressed down in front of the fan base. There's a time and place for everything...practice is OK but not in a game.

That's why I posted what I did in post #27. It was an easy leap.

I thought that was a practice. I saw no fans or anyone Courtside.

Yes, exactly. The actions in the video seemed fine to me since they were at practice.

Most of us have seen similar behavior in games (like the last ten years of USC basketball?), which is not all that effective or appropriate.
