He was 60, which means he was younger than me. It's more than a little disconcerting.

Moses was one of those trend setter guys who went straight from high school to pro basketball, from Virginia as I recall.. I believe he was on one title team in 83 with the Sixers. That was a pretty good team. Dr J. Mo Cheeks. Bobby Jones. I read somewhere that they were voted one of the top ten NBA teams ever. Don't know about that, but acquiring Malone got Julius Erving his only NBA championship.

Pretty sure he won an MVP award. Decent scorer as a pro, but an incredible rebounder.

He was also the last ABA player to play in the NBA. Close to a 20 year career in pro basketball, because he started at 18 or 19.

He was an early NBA Favorite at our house, the Idol of my eldest son...I called to let him know, this morning, and we shared some great MM Memories!

R.I.P., Mo...

Living in Houston from 1969-1986, I once believed that the best player in the NFL, NBA and MLB could arguably have been Earl Campbell, Moses Malone and J.R. Richard. In the late 1970's that would have been hard to argue with.
