no, the real problem was that the pawns did a poor job of protecting the queen.
Don't blame the problems on the pawns. They are the proletariat of the chess board. The problem here is strategy. When on offense (white), the Cats team often went with the Fried Liver Attack, which black thwarted by playing Bc5 on its fourth move. When playing black, they were OK with the French Defense but had an unfortunate habit of going with the read-and-react Winawer Variation, which left them vulnerable on the kingside of the line.
