Now that I'm officially a middle-aged man I no longer have the ability to sleep in. I love sleep but I wake up right around 6:30-45am. I remember how much I hated waking up at the time for getting to high school. However, my two boys are high school students and without an alarm they could sleep till 2pm. So now every morning when I wake up, I let the dog out, then come up stairs to bang on their doors like a police raid shouting "Time for school!". Nothing better than their reactions of dismay. I love it.
Shalom

What you described is a variation of an old problem. I’ll use the technical jargon without explanation: You can describe pi as “a circle’s circumference divided by its diameter.” Since there are uncountably many real numbers and there are only countably many possible ways to describe a real number, there are infinitely many real numbers which cannot be described or defined in words.

one of the amazing things I have noticed in my 50s is how rarely I need an alarm clock. even if I need to wake up super early, I will set an alarm clock and almost always, without fail, I will wake up clear as day minutes before.
I only have to get up usually 2 times/week, but I wake up between 5am and the 5:45am alarm every time.

On a related note, 1000 is the only number from 0 to 1000 that has an “a” in it.

OK, so it's not related, but I thought you might want to know.
Give me an odd number without an “e” in it. My 10 y.o. son requested that one after I gave him fg’s question.

Does fairgambit enterprises,LLC also own Select Distributors, LLC?

The only reason I ask is that there was this huge explosion this morning at one of their distribution facilities in southeastern Michigan. It is reported that metal shrapnel flew as far as one (1) mile from the blast site.

Their “About Us” website page reads like something from fairgambiit Enterprises🤔

Select Distributors LLC is a wholesale supplier of Novelties Item, Phone Accessories, and general merchandise to discount stores, dollar stores, wholesalers, jobbers, supermarkets, convenience stores and many other types of retailers and wholesalers.

It is not always easy to find retail and dollar store wholesalers that are reliable and consistent. You will find that Select Distributors provides customers with quality service and quality products. Great variety of products, along with our quality service team, will give you untold value in a number of ways. Your customers will love your store.

Sad about the explosion, but as to our possible ownership, this company is the antithesis of what Fairgambit Worldwide Enterprises represents. Quality? Value? That's crazy! Remember our slogan. "No one gives you less for more". Still, thanks for the mention. :)

This really does amaze me. If I set my alarm for 6:30, invariably I will wake up between 6:20 and 6:30. This presumes a normal night sleep though. I was working on witness outlines until 4 am once, thought I had an alarm set, and was awoken by my client at 8 with a phone call for an 8:30 hearing start time.

Exactly... If I could have consistently awoke like this when I was a student, or even for the first 15 years of my professional life, I'd have retired a decade ago

I hate setting alarms, and usually only do it when I have an early flight. Then, because of the rarity of the situation (I’m not a business traveler) I end up waking up early six times wondering if I missed the alarm.

Sleep is like chasing the dragon; satisfaction is always out of reach.

I started working from home about 5 years ago and don't need an alarm anymore. So what happens now that that torture is gone? Now I wake up even earlier for no reason and feel like crap.

It's like the Twilight Zone episode where the guy has all the books and all the time but no glasses.

As y’all know, I’m an ironhead and while I was teaching I’d wake up at 4:30 to be at the gym when it opened at 5. My watch has a stopwatch feature and I’d use the stopwatch to time my hard boiled eggs. More than once, twice in one week, actually, I would forget to switch back to my regular watch setting and I’d wake up, look at my watch saying 4:45, drive to the gym’s empty parking lot and realize that it was 2:15 am. Good times. Thank god my gym is only four minutes away.

I can remember as a young boy my mother would come in to wake me up. She would quietly open the door and in a soft voice say, “Connorpozlee, it’s time to get up for school.” Then she would return 5 minutes later, rub my back and tell me again that it was time for school. Then, a couple minutes after that she would walk back in and sing, “Oh How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning”. The a couple minutes after that she would bust through the door and yell, “GET UP AND GET OUT OF BED!!!!!”. The last one always did the trick.
