OT: Penguin woes

Just some random thoughts
1) Crosby officially registered 2 SOG last night. Why he thinks passing to any other player not named Malkin or Hornquist right now (both out) is a good idea is beyond me. He continually passes up decent scoring oportunities to try to feed the likes of Winnik and Kunitz who couldn't score at the Mustang ranch with a pocked full of Benjamins and a bottle of Viagra
2) Is there nobody at WBS who is better than Max Lapierre? 26 games with the Pens and he is -9 with I believe 1 assist
3) I still don't understand the Depres trade
4) The effort in the first period was a disgrace. 3 SOG. The Pens were outshot in every period and were horrible in the face off circle. Every Pens player who took a face off had a sub 50% percentage with Crosby at 41%
5) I really wish the Pens would bring up Rust and a few others from WSB. At least they play hard and will grind out a win or two and maybe avoid 8th place in the standings.

1) we need those 2 back on the double quick!
2) Yes...Max is useless
3) From what I've heard there were some fairly serious locker room issues with Depres...
4) Crosby MUST get better results in the FO circle...not sure why so much dropoff there?
5) Rust would be a start...at least he has a give a $ hit meter...
And 6) If they draw the Rangers 1st round ,things are gonna be REAL ugly in Pens land...

Have to totally agree with this - Pens have no grinders & no grit to carry them far in the playoffs.

and to think that for the most part, MAF has been a wall (I think fatigue is setting in this month as he is starting to go down on his side (flopping) again)

Where would this team be with out him?

I myself find it difficult to believe that WBS players are any kind of key to this team's success.

As for Sid and his FO problems, he was actually in a pretty good stretch recently from that standpoint.....especially in the offensive zone. But he played 25+ minutes last night; 3-5 minutes more than he's used to playing (and I'm wondering if he may have lost a decent percentage of those FO's late in the game).

Lots of Pens have well-documented problems with looking to pass rather than shoot; but why Sid seems to constantly make that cross-ice pass on the power play.....while the opponent's defensive box consistently sags into the slot and disrupts virtually every one......bothers me as much as anything he (or this team) is doing.

if there is nobody at WBS better than Max Lapierre, this franchise is in for a long dark period of futility. He singlehandedly cost them goal #1 last night. He adds nothing.

I went out in the 2nd period to pick up dinner. I put the game on Sirius in my car. Mike lange mentioned Lovejoy continually trying to bank passes off the boards behind the goal to somebody in front of the net vs shooting on goal. Mike said, it "isn't working!"

As far as Sid trying to get the puck across the ice.....it is as silly and predictable as a Malkin drop pass at the blue line. It doesn't work and often set the other team up for a rush.

Sadly, I think the team is wasting MAF's and Letang's best seasons. They can't control the injuries I understand but they are part of the game. Maybe it is time to move Sid or Geno for 2-3 upper and mid level players to add depth. I don't know. I said this last year but the period after the 92 cup where the team was loaded but couldn't win another resembles 2010 team and on doesn't it?

I wouldn't trade either of them YET...I think there's plenty of life left in the 2 of em for at least a few more years...as you mention OM1 the supporting cast is not good enough (or perhaps giving enough effort) especially with Hornqvist on the shelf, not to mention Dupuis...I was a Johnston supporter at the start of the year but wonder...some of the recent failure should also fall on his shoulders. He needs to motivate, and drive his message through no matter how important or how much money these guys make...I still believe he is a good coach, BUT does he have what it takes to get MORE out of the cards dealt...so far? NO.

I'm feeling good about this year's team, we are limping into the playoffs. Will be a very high seed and have 0 home ice advantage.

When was the last time the team was a very lowseed and had 0 home ice advantage? 2009 when they won the Stanley Cup.

Last few years, the team has been a very high seed with home ice advantage. That did absolutely nothing. They **** the bed every year and lost. I think the team plays like **** at home anyways. I'm not sure what it is about Consol Energy Center, but the place is bad vibes for the Penguins. I think they play better on the road.

Even if this team loses early, I'll be happy. It's been a long and frustrating year. The team is so close to being a damn good team but still need 1 more off-season to make the appropriate changes. The team will have a lot of money coming off the books this summer anyways and I still think they trade Kunitz and/or Sutter which opens things up even more cap. They may trade someone else under-the-radar to move back up into the draft. I think they only have one 2nd round pick and then won't pick again until the 5th round. This is a very deep draft, I would like to see them get back another pick, at least in 2nd or 3rd round pick. Two 2nd round picks is just as good as one 1st round pick unless it's a lottery pick, of course.
