I doubt he's coming out of retirement without some sort of guarantee he'll have a competitive roster. Krall has needed to quit sitting on his hands for a long time and maybe this could be the start
Reds could have a competitive roster if they could quit being one of the most injured teams in baseball year in and year out. They need to overhaul their training and medical staff as well. But i also think they need to solidify players at their positions. Having 17 shortstops playing every position on the field isn't a recipe for winning.

That's been my biggest gripe. The draft all shortstops and CFs has got them where they have nobody who has even started to try to master 1 position. Elly doesn't seem like a natural SS to me and India is solid but a weak arm with not a ton of coverage out at 2nd. Those are the 2 most solidified to a position guys they have and that's extremely underwhelming in the field to me

Elly should be in CF with the ground he can cover. Get McClain back at 2B, solidify CES at 1B, hope Arroyo recovers fully, though he’s more than likely a 2026 guy. Maybe McClain at SS with India at 2B, hope Marte figures it out at 3B enough to make him a bargaining chip for when Cam Collier’s ready. Maybe move Steer back to SS or 3B. See the conundrum with not drafting guys to the positions?

Elly needs to be at 3rd and save his legs. He wouldn't be half the defensive CF Friedl is anyway. McClain needs to be at SS and you immediately improve defensively up the middle. Marte needs to go elsewhere.

Elly struggles with hot grounders.

He wouldn’t have much of that in Center field and can cover lots of ground and throw folks out at the plate with his big arm.
