I don’t know if there are any Nascar fans on the board but Ryan Newman was involved in a really bad crash on the last lap of the Daytona 500 and had to be cut out of his car and then was transported to the hospital and is in serious condition but has no life threatening injuries. Thoughts and prayers for him, his family and his friends. I hope he has s speedy recovery.

I don't do nascar anymore but really like Ryan, he lives close to me and is seen around town a lot and you couldn't ask for a nicer guy. I was really concerned when I heard about it and praying for him.

You would have to think that safety measures put in place after Dale Earnhardt Sr crash probably had a lot to do with Newmans injuries not being life threatening.

I haven’t watched Nascar since Dale Jr retired but after I saw people talking about Ryan Newman’s crash on Facebook I started flipping through the sports channels to see if I could find any coverage to see if there was any new reports on his condition and I came a cross a replay of the race om FS2 and it was near the end of the race, so I watched the end of the race to see his crash and it was one of the worst crashes that I’ve ever seen and the thing that had me the most worries was when the car came to a stop on it’s roof there was a small fire near the rear of the car and you could see fuel running out of the car near where the fire was and I was worried that the fuel was going to hit the fire and was going to turn into an even bigger fire but thankfully the emergency crews got to him very quickly and got the fire extinguished. I’ve always liked Newman because he’s always seemed like s really good guy and I was glad to hear that his injuries weren’t life threatening even though he was in critical condition and before I went to bed I decided to do a search to see if I could find any updates on his status but couldn’t find anything with any new updates but then I saw on Facebook before I went to bed that he had been upgraded to stable condition.

Yes the safety measures that were put into place after Dale Sr’s accident in 2001 have come a long way towards protecting drivers in crashes like the one that Newman was involved in last night. The most eerie thing.about Newman’s crash is that it happened 1 day shy of 19 years after Dale Sr’s crash.

Saw the wreck and it was horrific. Thankfully, nascar has come FAR in making the cars safe. Awful tho.

I am not a Nascar fan. I read in the WSJ this am that driver, Ryan Blaney said: " he'd tried to come around Newman, but having not succeeded, he'd committed himself to giving Newman a push to the win, to try to have another Ford driver, like himself, win it. I don't know, we got bumpers hooked up wrong and turned him". How is this an acceptable practice? How is this not cheating? At 200 mph or any speed, this is not acceptable. Is this a common practice in auto racing? I don't like it in football when players push there on ball carrier forward but in car racing? Enlighten me !

It’s known as bump drafting and driver’s have been bump drafting for years.if a driver bumb drafts another driver straight bumper to bumper it works good but occasionally a driver will bump draft another driver at the wrong angle and unfortunately crashes happen. Most crashes don’t end up being really bad but unfortunately some crashes end up like the crash that Newman was in.
