Well it happened. Last week I had a heart attack. It was mild by some standards I guess, but most definitely freaked me out. Shortness of breath, 3 day heartburn, and fatigue like crazy. Had the wife carry my azz to the hospital. EKG showed all was good. Blood work showed heart enzymes on the freak high side. Cauterization found 5 blockages. 95, 60, 50, 50, 40 percentile. The Doc slapped in a stint on the 95% and called it a day. I'm forever on blood thinners, BP meds, Cholesterol, a Nitro as needed. Heart scan and ultra sound showed no heart damages. doc says stay on my meds, eat better, stop smoking. He flat told me and I quote, "You keep smoking 2 to 3 cigars daily, you will die soon. And no medicine, doctor or technology can save you. Stop smoking."

The worst thing was I just bought a full box of cigars a few days earlier. They are sitting there laughing their asses off at me.

He who laughs LAST laughs Best...You know that drill!

LISTEN to Doc...All 3 of my Late, Great, Husband's deaths were Directly connected to their smoking...They wouldn't listen to their docs, or to ME, which goes without saying...

Three of 'em, huh? You sure we shouldn't be watching a Dateline story on you or maybe see you on the Oxygen channel's "Snapped?"

Get well soon my old friend You are in our thoughts and we wish you much improved health.
There are out patient classes in OKC for those who have had heart attacks .
They teach what to eat and what not to eat and things to avoid for heart healthy diets. They also talk about heart healthy exercise. and other things to help improve your overall health.
You might pursue this in your area.

Good luck

95% is pretty serious blockage...
My mentor and good friend from my first engineering job retired and died less than a year later from a massive heart attack due to similar blockage. Was backing out of his driveway to take his dog to the park for a walk. Police found him slumped over the steering wheel of his truck with it still running in the field across from his house. Middle of Dallas summer too, luckily the A/C was on and his dog survived.
You dodged a bullet, WNAS.

I only hit the like button because you're ok..... Glad it wasn't worse. And I can give you an address to send the cigars. ;)

It makes good sense to follow medical advice. I did, fervently. I am still going strong fourteen years after I probably beat death, narrowly.

Agree. Definitely a lifestyle change. Mostly cigar smoking. It's been a week already. So far, so good. The nose/smell sense is already coming back a tad even within the week. I can smell cigarette smoke etc. from a distance now. Odd.

Thanks Bull. Although I'm in Houston these days, but still travel to Chicago heavily in the summer. The diet isn't so much the problem. It's 3 to 4 cigars a day that finally caught up with me.

My father had three different bypass surgeries, one in the 70s, one in the 80's and one in the 90's. They made him get up and walk one lap around in the CCU the next day each time. And in increase it daily. He had to walk 22 laps in one day before he could go home. 22 laps equaled one mile.

Obviously the first couple of days, they were assisted laps. They said that the sooner he got to walking, the sooner he'd be able to do the mile.

This is serious stuff. And you had a lot of stuff. Praying for your recovery.
