Mrs LJ and I are soon off to Bangkok. We’re staying north of downtown, near the Victory Monument. We have three days on our own before starting a Gate 1 tour (shameless plug).

We’re going north after Bangkok but will be on the tour.

Any recommendations? I’ve been studying the public transport options and have a fairly good idea of how best to utilize that but welcome any suggestions.

Yes, I’ll be sure not to walk backwards.

This would be my recommendation.....

Our first stop is in Bogota
To check Colombian fields
The natives smile and pass along
A sample of their yield
Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams
Golden Acapulco nights
Then Morocco, and the East
Fly by morning light
We're on the train to Bangkok
Aboard the Thailand Express
We'll hit the stops along the way
We only stop for the best
Wreathed in smoke in Lebanon
We burn the midnight oil
The fragrance of Afghanistan
Rewards a long day's toil
Pulling into Kathmandu
Smoke rings fill the air
Perfumed by a Nepal night
The Express gets you there
We're on the train to Bangkok
Aboard the Thailand Express
We'll hit the stops along the way
We only stop for the best

Weren't you just in Europe recently?

You seem to really have taken to this "retirement" thing.....

That first sentence sounds interesting. Maybe I should stop thinking like Bob.

No, after. Before the Super Bowl, though.

it's been awhile since Commanders' fans went through the process. But for future reference, you might imitate my practice. Long before the NFL season starts, you can look up when the Super Bowl, and all the playoff weekends are. And to the best of your ability, you don't schedule anything until after the Super Bowl. The 1st couple of playoff weekends are a bit of a challenge, in that games take place on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (Monday might only be the 1st weekend), and the actual schedule isn't announced until the Sunday before.

It's hard to know for sure how future years will go for the Commanders, but with Jayden at QB, you should be in the running for playoffs for the next decade.

Very astute, Tom. Are you sure you didn't graduate Neshaminy?

My daughter went to visit there for a few days with a friend just over a year ago. Didn't spend much time in Bangkok but mentioned:
- Grand Palace is definitely worth it. Free tours and have to keep knees and shoulders covered
- Khao San market has lot of food and vendors
- Chatuchak weekend market. LOTS of stalls and vendors. Like a giant flea market
- Public transport is real easy to use.

Enjoy, and give us a report back!

Are you affiliated with Gate 1 in some way? We die their Rhine cruise 2-3 years ago and Ireland tour last year.

No, not affiliated, but they are our go-to tour. We prefer tours. Ireland was pretty cool, right? You went Dublin Cork Galway Belfast, that route, I’m guessing. Gate 1 is very convenient because you can easily arrange to arrive a few days early and stay a few days late, no problem for them. You should try the Spain-Portugal tour, awesome.

We actually did “10 Day Classic Ireland,” which went from Dublin to Galway, Cliffs of Moher, Killarney, etc. loop back to Dublin. No Northern Ireland, but maybe next time. I appreciate the Spain-Portugal recommendation. Haven’t been to either country but want to go and Gate 1 may be the just the ticket.

Our trip was “16 Day Iberia.” Just fantastic. Salamanca and Porto, plus the bigger cities.
