Anyplace that's open after the bars close....Dennys, IHOP..... is going to draw a certain element. It's hardly unique to Waffle House.
As my state cop dad used to tell me....
Nothing good happens after 2am.
I wouldn't even wipe my așṣ with a waffle from that place.
Your dad was correct. However, the Awful House has a reputation unmatched by anywhere else.
Recently I read "Waffle Street" written by a guy who lost his job as a financial analysist and took a job at Waffle House because it was easier to work there than comply by the rules to collect unemployment. A couple of points from the book
Waffle House employees the most ex-cons of any business in America. He noted the ex-cons were more honest than the other employees
There are no computers in a Waffle House. Staff bring in a calculator from home to add up the bill and use it until to much syrup gets into the keys.
Staff are trained to call in orders to the cook in a prescribed order.
The best times to work (get the most tips) is Sat. night Sun morning. You get the late night Sat drunks and then the Sun morning church crowd.
All the buildings are the same.

I saw a guy get a plate broken over his head at Pat’s Diner in Belmar, NJ about thirty years ago at 2:30 AM. I remember our waitress looking at that table for a second and continuing to take our order, completely unfazed.
Uh, from which places would you wipe your *** with a waffle?
