Deacons up 18 on UNC late in the second half. Another "good loss" for NU. And shows what a good coach plus the transfer portal plus relaxed admission standards can do at a small private school......

Although Jake LaRavia who killed us and is a star there was an Indianapolis kid with a 4.3 gpa and NU didn't want him out of high school or when he left Indiana State last year.

Wake beat BC by 30 tonight. If Wake, a school with half the undergrad size of NU, can be 17-4, why not NU? Get a decent coach, mine the transfer portal and make a commitment to being competitive by enrolling student athletes who can both hack the academics in an appropriate major and compete for championships.

Yep. Sometimes the hire of an unglamorous guy from a mid-major can be the right hire if the guy can flat-out coach.

Looks like we need to have a change in admission standards.

That was the Fran McCaffrey model. It’s worked out great.

Jeff Boals from Ohio U. is the guy I’m monitoring. Boring old guy who has done a bunch of winning.

Ohio is his alma mater though, would he leave that for a Big Ten job?

this is going to sound like a Turk/Ned post or CMT(?) OSU "buddy", but I have a close friend who has a family member at Duke athletics (so you are getting this fourth-hand). He says they absolutely expect even the one-and-done's to do the school work. I am dubious, I don't imagine Zion cared what he got in Biology 101. Or maybe 102, because he may have had to stay eligible for a semester. Anyway, we discussed it politely and he insisted that they do not recruit kids that can't do the work. One dissenting voice anyway
