Last 2 games have been disappointing in what has been a surprise season thus far. Needed the win today as the schedule doesn't let up.
I think Moser has done a good job considering the roster. Not really a go to guy offensively when things get stagnant. They've leaned on Harkless to be that guy and he's not a scorer. I'd like to see Goldwire be more aggressive but that's not really his game either. If Tanner Groves continues to struggle I think we'll see the slide continue.
Big XII is very good this year.

OU's as much a football school as Kansas is a basketball school.
Tubb's 1988 team was OU basketball's highwater mark....losing the title game to an 11-loss Kansas team that OU had defeated twice in the regular season.

OU is definitely a football school, but I have to disagree with the nothingburger statement. There’s a good deal of us who don’t skip straight to softball (which I love as well).Sans Kansas (who, admittedly, we’ll not catch in my lifetime) OU holds the series lead against every single team who is, or was ever in the Big 12, & KSU is the only one of those whose deficit vs. the Sooners is not double digits. There’s certainly a transition going on, & games like today try one’s patience to say the least, but there’s brighter days ahead imo, once Moser isn’t faced with the insane roster turnover (I have never in my 40+ years following OU seen one with 3 returning players & 9 new faces) he’s dealing with this year.
Thunder basketball is the gravitational pull that will keep OU basketball from launching off. In a small market an inferior product gets the leftovers.
If a college basketball team becomes "second fiddle" to a nearby NBA team, it does not reflect well on that team or its fans.

OK, maybe I am too hard on Moser at this stage of the game, but why not call a time out when the team looks like they forgot what sport they are playing? I realize this is not the roster he wants or anticipates having long term but at least give it a noble try. I am a football fan first but basketball and baseball are not that far behind. I enjoy basketball and will not willfully give it up to Kansas.
We aren't Kansas but we should still be better than most the conference on average.
Sure. Thanks to football, (which, don’t get me wrong, I’m as big of a fan as anybody) we have a quite apathetic fan base to a program whose overall results throughout the years has deserved better support. If OU BB had been the equivalent of say, KU FB, I’d understand it better, but that’s just not been the case.
You're more harsh than I've heard you in a while. The officials yesterday let the teams beat the crap out of each other. OU is more than a little short of talent. There aren't two players on this team that would start for another ranked team in the conference. The are performing pretty well in a very tough conference this year. I think you mix in OU's impending departure to the SEC, you can count on oppenents getting most of the breaks from conference officials, especially on the road. Yesterday's crew called four fouls on TCU in the first 19 plus minutes of the second half in a very physical game.
OU needs it called a little tighter. We're not athletic enough to play in the kind of game. It's not about poor coaching. It's about most of the eligible to return talent from last year's team playing pretty well at other schools. I saw one late last night at Oregon.
I think most Sooner fans think Moser is doing a fantastic job. I'd be one of them.

Ya that was a major disappointment. I was in high school and remember watching Danny Manning pretty much beat us in the 2nd half all by himself.
I recall the score was 50-50 at halftime and the second half saw OU fall into a cold spell that killed them.
Like the 1983 Houston Cougars who lost to NC State, these two games were giant upsets and was for me, painful to watch.
Both the 1988 OU team and 1983 Houston team were my two favorite teams when I once cared about basketball to that degree. Both were monumental chokes in my opinion.
Guy Lewis' Cougars went from Phi Slama Jama went to Phi Slow It Blow It. He abandoned the fast break up-tempo style in that game.
And I will always feel that had the OU-Kansas game had been played at a more neutral site, instead of 40 miles from the KU campus, OU would have won.

I for one am excited about the direction of the Men’s basketball program under Porter Moser. Remember most of this team is in their first year as Sooners. Most of last year’s team is gone due to either graduation or transfer. My son and I are driving up from the Dallas area for the OU / KU Game and are very excited about it! Hopefully it’s a large turnout especially with it being a 6pm game on ESPN.
Lets not forget in that game it seemed the refs were trying to dictate the pace of the game. Everytime OU picked up the pace a whistle was blown that stopped it. To this day I think the refs played a huge roll in the game.
Yes very tough. They played hard tonight and I think what hurts this team is OU has no true scoring threat that can take over a game. With a 4 point lead late they really took some bad shots and Cortez to me seems out of control at times with his ball handling and decision making especially on fast breaks.
At this point getting to 7 conference wins is going to be a struggle. There are no gimmie games in this league that I can see. One thing for sure is this team has shown they can hang with the better teams.
There was a play at the 3:06 mark where Kansas lost the ball out of bounds but the refs signaled off of OU. Replay showed out on KU. At that point OU ahead by 3 pts. KU got the ball and made a 3 pointer tying the game. If called correctly OU ball, 3 pt lead possibly going up by 5. The call by the ref giving the ball to KU was monumental.
OU came out in the first three minutes of the second half with 4 turnovers and ZERO points. Kansas had 10 points and ZERO turnovers in that same period of time. OU passes the ball around until the shot clock is critical and then makes a stupid mistake trying the force the ball to the rim. It is heart wrenching to watch these guys.

Sometimes that passing the ball around until the shot is critical is due to good defense. KU is pretty good on both sides of the ball. Its much easier watching this team than watching Lon's last two years.
I agree with you on KU D but I watched Goldwire pull up and NOT take the best shot on the floor only to pass it into KU's good D. OU is not fun to watch when they are not clicking. Groves missed all his 3s which makes for bad viewing also. As bad as they seem to me now you are correct about comparison to Lon's teams.

Groves was off last night, not only did he miss all his 3's he missed several shots in the paint as well. Tired legs, everything is coming up short.
I must say that I enjoyed every second of being at the game with my boy last night (6 Hour round trip drive up from Allen, TX with a pregame meal at The Mont). Our tickets were 8 rows behind the bench and I can tell you those boys played their hearts out and Porter coached his *** off. One thing we noticed was that it was hotter than hell in the gym last night (not sure why) and that definitely was a contributor (tired legs) as OU is definitely not as deep as KU. Put that together with the horrible out of bounds call late in the game and all of the ticky tack calls over the last 8 minutes made for a tough game. I was proud of the whole team's effort. Based on what I saw last night, I believe the future is bright for OU Men's Basketball. BOOMER!
I agree this team is in great hands with PM and think this team is full of heart. The OOB call was incorrect for sure but I am not sure this team is going to get much help from these B12 refs. I think in the next year or so PM will have this team contending for the B12 crown before OU departs to the SEC.
At times though its very frustrating watching this team play. Very eractic play in spurts of game is hurting them. Got to play smarter with leads.
