He's already putting in the work on the practice floor.

Man it's awesome to be the best and to have best. Duke blue devils. It get's no better.

If your reading this and your growing sick and tired of winning and being awesome, there is plenty of room for you up the road at UNC

My honest opinion is that this coming season will be a really tough follow up from last year.

The freshman we had were so unique both in talent and maturity.

This group will be a lot of fun to watch and follow but I expect our ups and downs will be much more extreme

For the guys that know Thornton from high school, does he have a similar type of composure to Tyus?

I really thought Tyus was unique in his composure, but I was just curious to know if Thornton has shown a composure level just above his peers.

It all started with OAK...for years(God Bless You Rosh) many fans wanted an 'Elton Brand Clone'. We got it. Then we had a traditional college pf in Amile, multi- talented sf/wf in Just, sg/pg in Quinn and another 'Kyrie clone' in Jones. This year its just TALENT... We know Derryck is the pg, Allen is the sg, but after that everything is in the air.

A lot of responsibility will be on Derryck where as last year it was spread out with the freshmen taking the load. Keep in mind, Sheed and Quinn had some good games and got the freshmen ready for what was to come.

Good post. Will be really excited to see this new group mature under Coach K as the season goes on! Hope everyone can minimize the comparisons between Thornton and Tyus, and just let Thornton be himself. I don't think anyone will miss Tyus as much as I will, but I am really looking forward to a new and exciting PG in Thornton. Let him make his Freshman mistakes without the comparison, and I believe my midseason we will all be very happy with this young man!
Hot dog(!), this is going to be fun!! Can't wait til' the season starts!!
Go Duke!!

Ingram will start at the 3/4 barring injury. Jamsession is incorrect in his/her statement.
I'm assuming Matt Jones will play a similar role as last year. Maybe 25 minutes spelling the 2/3 spot as a 3rd option on offense. Do you think he takes the next step this year and sees 30 minutes a game?

Matt Jones started all the latter part of the year last year, including the entire tournament run, but I see him as the sixth man with this group. He is the quintessential "glue guy" that will get starts here and there throughout the year when someone is hurt, slumping, or needing a shake-up. I think the starters at 1-4 are pretty solid, but the 5 spot is a little up for grabs with Jeter, Plumlee, and Obi. The consensus is that Jeter is the best offensively in that group, and has the highest ultimate ceiling. That doesn't mean he starts though (especially with multiple other quality offensive on the floor - Coach K might opt for a defensive presence in the back end). I think it will be:
Thornton
Allen
Ingram
Jefferson
Jeter

I see Matt a little like Scheyer as a sophomore. Not in the same scoring capacity role, but as the steady hand off the bench who will score, just not as frequently as Jon. He'll also be one of our best defenders on the perimeter.

Speaking talent-wise alone, this group has an opportunity to be pretty good. But so do a lot of teams, including the one just down the road from us. I just hope people have more patience with this team. Heck, for as good as we looked at times last year we struggled a lot in sequences too.

In fact, posters during the St. John's game, some who are reading this post, said we wouldn't make it out of the first weekend. Just remember, teams evolve....and rarely at the same rate. Last season we went through a few tough spots that got us better in the long run. We needed those wounds to make us better. That will likely ring true with the 2015-16 bunch, as well.
