If there was a playoff system in place there's no telling how many titles we could've won in that span...
In 1968 and 1969 we may have been the best team in the country and probably were... In 1973 we were right there... In 1977 (Punished for an early Kentucky loss) I would've loved to have had a crack at ND (Who loss to Ole Miss),,, In 1981 if we had a 8 team-playoff we likely would've won it all because after the Bama loss we got red hot... Of course we did win it all in 1982 and 1986... So, yes 1968-1986 was one hell of a run!

and despite resigning from the White House in disgrace, Richard Nixon would have been the Commissioner of the CFP system because only he knew on good authority that Texas was the best team in the country year after year after year after....

4 undefeated seasons
15 top ten finishes
2 national championships (with every right to claim at least two more)
and not a single losing season
It was the Golden Era of Penn State football. I missed, maybe, 5 homes games in all those years and probably travelled to 40 away games. Trips to WVU, Syracuse, Temple, Navy, were easy and enjoyable. Wins were expected and delivered. Life was sweet.
