Their president is a tyrant. He is trying to establish a caliphat in Turkey. Dont let Turkey fool you as they fully support Isis and are their main supplier with hardware and supplies. Turkey is the launching pad for the muslim invasion of europe. Many over their are blaming this so called coup on the us. Many experts say he did it himself to consolidate more power to his position. As a result our nuclear base is under threat..........

Vero Beach, FL - (TRUNEWS) Turkish police have unofficially blockaded Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, according to a military source inside the joint NATO installation.

According to the source, whose identity and position has been verified by TRUNEWS, the U.S. portion of the Incirlik Air Base has been cut off from local power since Friday, forcing personnel to solely rely on fuel generators to power mission critical buildings............

Incirlik Air Base serves as a significant bastion of U.S. force projection in the Middle East, is headquarters to the US 39th Air Base Wing, and vaults over 50 B-61 nuclear bombs on-site. The source was unaware of the status of those nuclear armaments, but confirmed the base has maintained its Friday night security status of FPCON Delta — the same high level of alert military bases were placed on after the attacks on September 11th 2001............

A military representative with the public affairs office for Incirlik Air Base was reached by phone Monday evening, but was unauthorized to answer questions pertaining to the health and welfare of the approximately 1,500 airmen stationed at the base, the status of the 50 B-1 bombers and their nuclear warheads, and the reports that the Turkish government is intentionally depriving U.S. personnel of commercial power.

Security concerns surrounding Incirlik Air Base have steadily increased over the last year. At the end of March the Pentagon ordered nearly 700 spouses and children to evacuate, and in June, Thaddeus Borowicz, a U.S. civilian contractor who worked at the base, was found dead.

The army has done this several times over history to protect the secular status of the Country (i.e. Constitutional Rule). Turkey is turning into an Islamic dictatorship similar to Syria or Iraq (Saddam) but not as radical as either. Turkey has been a secular Islamic Democracy and historically a pretty good example of one. But Obama is losing another "friendly" face in the Middle East. These countries are having to pick between moving more towards an Islamic state or true democracy and unfortunately for many Muslims (not all) democracies are not complaint to many interpretations of Islamic Law (sharia). Not taking sides, just trying to lay out facts.

Yep. That's a fascinating thing about Turkey's history. Normally you think of military coups being the work of anti-democratic tyrants. But, in Turkey, it's been the opposite, their coups have traditionally served the purpose of restoring constitutional-democracy and preventing the radical muslim whackos from taking over the country.

But this time it failed. Bad news for rational-minded Turks. And likely also bad news for us.

Funny thing is that Syria and iraq had many laws in place that protected christians and other religious group from being persecution. 2 day the Iraqies call the good ol days was when saddam was in power.
The government that we put into place inside a Iraq quickly outlawed christianity. there was over 1 million christians who lived around the city of baghdad now they have fled for their lives of those who are left alive.
Actually the countries in the middle east who are friendly towards Christians iraq syria libya and we tried to over throw Egypt and install the Muslim brotherhood. They were all the most western middle eastern countries and open muslim countries in the middle east. We have allied ourselves with the country who are the most extreme like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait etc. These guys will cut you in a second they hate christians and have their women looking like they are wearing a garbage bag. Seems backwards huh??

it is a crazy huh. a secular regime protecting religious minorities. and it stuck out in that region. not only christians (one group) in iraq but in the middle east in general, had a place they could go, technically speaking, to worship freely. and they had a killing dictator. it all makes your head hurt looking at it.

Making America Great again is a redneck thing?

ok
I wouldn't say it's a redneck thing - I'd say it's more of an ignorance thing. America is pretty much just as great as it's always been.

Far and away, the biggest issue facing this country is wealth distribution. If you don't fix that, making "America greater" will only make the wealthy wealthier.

If you don't think America is great, i would hate to read your opinion about the rest of the world. While the Usa is not perfect, we live in a pretty awesome country and have freedoms that people die for everyday. I sometimes get pissed at our country at times, but even still i thank god i was born and live in the Usa. Some are not so lucky.

For many to appreciate our roads are paved in gold they need to spend some time in Middle East as well as any third world country.

It's really not though: Rampant corruption in government, racial tension, terrorists attacks, political protests.

Wealth distribution is not even in the top 10 of biggest challenges/problems facing the US today, imo. Not even close. You actually think if all the wealth in the US was distributed equally, we wouldn't have crime, drugs, crappy public education, terrorism, corruption in government, single mothers, etc.? Obviously a Bernie Sanders supporter. Also, as shown in post-WWII Germany, if all the people start at basically the same place, within 20 years 80% of the wealth will be controlled by 10% of the people. It's called capitalism. Not everyone is capable of being a physicist or a brain surgeon or an entrepreneur or an artist. Some skillsets pay much better than others. That's life. Deal with it.

And, I certainly don't wish anyone any harm, but Enes Kanter didn't play a single minute for UK. How is he 'one of ours'? Not his fault, I get that. But, the fact remains - he never, ever played at UK.

Don't spread government propaganda about Syria. Syria under Assad was and is a sovereign nation and if you knew anything about the conflict beyond what is reported on mainstream media sources you'd be supporting him and Russia in this conflict.

1) can you douche bags focus on Turkey in this thread?

2) the conservative Muslim population is growing to overtake the secular side. Turkey is going the way of Lebanon.

I've asked around here if anyone had heard of the motivation behind the coup since for days afterwards there was no discussion of it. Grim playacting akin to kristallnacht makes as much sense as anything.

Apparently if a pin falls to the ground anywhere it's Obama's fault.

You clearly don't understand what I'm talking about with wealth distribution. Never did I say that the wealth should be distributed equally.

The middle class is disappearing in the US. When that happens, you have two groups of people: the rich and the poor. It hurts the economy and it makes it almost impossible to have social mobility. If you're born rich, you win. If you're born poor, you lose. The "American Dream" pretty much disappears.

Look at how much wealth the top 5-10% control today compared to just 20-25 years ago. It's startling.

I have a relative who taught last summer in Turkey. She just spoke about the coup attempt to the leader of the program at which she -- my relative -- taught. (Americans have been leaving Turkey in swarms.) It is the accepted wisdom, in Turkey (says the program leader) that the coup was a sham organized to give Erdogan an excuse to crack down. So, not definitive. A friend of a friend says ...
