I haven’t ever been a fan of him. Seems like he wrestles this way because he gasses. Pin/choke out or bust.

Spates knows too much about wrestling to innocently call that a snake as that was happening. Neither his arm or body position resembled an attempt at a snake. It was dirty from the start and turned dangerous when he locked his hands across the throat. Wills was so unconscious that he seized after the criminal got off of him. I can’t imagine being a parent, coach, or teammate watching that. This is blowing up on twitter. So many are justifiably mad at the ref but the culprit is the dirty wrestler and the coach/program/university that continues to allow him to conduct himself in this way.

Vile...the guy falls to his back to put more pressure on the opponents throat and bridges, acting like he's fighting off a pin until the UALR wrestler goes limp. The 174, Rosselli and both officials need to be held accountable in some way.

I say banish the whole team to the SEC, better yet the entire athletic program and university, that'll teach em a lesson!

Mantanona knew what he was doing. He has CVBJJ in his twitter bio. His dad is an instructor at that club in CA.

The OU wrestling program is falling apart fast. Their best wrestler just went into the transfer portal and now this. This is a good example of what happens to a program that has lost its fan base and university support. They can’t develop guys anymore in the room and clearly are having the wrong coaching and guidance on the mat. I just wonder what will actually happen once they move to the SEC.

I just cant imagine what the assistant ref was doing. Why on earth was he not opposite, textbook situation to be watching specifically for a choke or illegal headlock so main ref could watch for takedown danger.

And, it makes me appreciate how hard refs at HS and below have to work when only one on the mat

He did some serious headgear grabbing in his match against Plott. Dude is willing to break all kinds of rules to try and win. But hey, another reason to heat up the Bedlam rivalry...

It wasn't just headgear grabbing either. He also tried to headbutt Plott.

I think word is out with the officials now. None of this is inadvertent, he's just a dirty wrestler. They are going to keep a close eye on him now.

But yet he continues to get to wrestle with all of this on tape to review? Should be at least be suspended by his own coach, but hey we know how ou rolls.

Just watched the 174 match from the OU/NIU dual held a couple weeks back. That ref was alert -- he hit Mantanona with a penalty point for the same illegal front headlock.

He put in a half on Plott's bad shoulder and just ran forward with it, trying to injure Plott. It was obvious. He got hit with potentially dangerous and the OSU bench was calling it out. Plott then escaped and it didn't matter. But it for sure happened in Bedlam this year.
