It's gone, right? On the one three I saw him take against Purdue, I thought his form was perfect. Last year, even though he hit almost 80% from the line and 35% on threes I had no confidence in him making threes because of the form, the kind where shooting slumps are inevitable. I could see Otega hitting in the upper thirties this year and if he does that he will be a first team All-American.

No its still there
My eyes saw him put the ball in front of his face and then release in one smooth stroke where last year he didn't he started different and there was a hesitation in the middle of the stroke. There was a defender in his face, so maybe that was just because he didn't have a lot of time? Wishful thinking on my part, seeing what I wanted to see? lol

Looked worse to me. Looked like he was trying to hand the ball to the defender before he shot it. But it went in.
I saw that; the ball wasn't in front of Otega's face(and the other guy's face) long enough for the defender to get his hands close to the ball. It was kind of a set shot(without jumping) and it was very familiar to me. I used to play against somebody that shot a set shot and it looked like you should be able to block them all but I never got the first one. If a guy shoots quick without jumping the defender can't jump to defend it or he's just too late.

He's not a shooter. He's what, 24 years old?, it's not going to happen. Not while he's in college anyway. Maybe a shot doctor at the next level can break him down and start over? If he makes next level.

But he's a damn fine college player with a broken shot. We need him to run the floor, play defense, rebound from the guard spot and make his free throws. The rest will be fine. He does need to make a few 3's to keep the defense honest. But he shouldn't be counted on to be the guy out of a play.

I agree with everything you said except that I believe, even at 24, he can become a shooter. If a guy hits almost 80% from the free throw line and 35% from 3 point range with bad form, that guy can be a shooter with improved form.

I believe he can too. Just not this season.

He’s got to completely remake his shot.

But I’ve seen it happen.

Magic Johnson couldn’t shoot at all when he entered the league.

Jason Kidd was even worse.

Magic became a serviceable shooter. Kidd became a very good 3 point shooter.

Just to be argumentative, lol, I'd say he only needs to rebuild half the shot. The first half. The actual release and follow through are good.
It's not as big a lift as, for example, a right handed player who starts the ball on the left side of their head or vice versa; those guys just have
to stop shooting and go back to kindergarten.

I'll play devil's advocate to your argumentative stance. His follow through is low and his shot is flat. But honestly, it's in large part due to the ball crossing the midline when he pulls it up into his shooting pocket. It's fixable, but fixes typically don't happen during the season. I can't imagine, at this point, we will notice much difference this year.

And sometimes the opposite happens. Remember how bad Chuck Hayes’ free throws got in the NBA?

I just meant specifically, during this college season. NBA guys spend WAAAAYYYY more time working and their season is much longer. Something as drastic as shot mechanics don’t change much during the season. He could shoot a higher percentage by taking better 3s. Only spot ups, inside outs…that sort of thing. My comment was specifically about the mechanics over the course of a college season.

I’d say get it consistent, but don’t change the form too much. They tried to break MKG down and made him so much worse it ruined him. His form looked weird at UK but it was fluid.

His shot reminds me of Rondo. While shooting the ball was never his best attribute, he is an example of a player whose shot became very serviceable in the NBA

I'm sure others have already posted; but yes. It is certainly still there. Fairly obvious to me on his first three point shot. Idk if its because its been a so long, but it just looks so dramatic and exaggerated this year. If it goes in it doesn't matter much. Id imagine this is the only reason we still have him playing for KY
