From just looking at his size and stats on the ESPN website ... it seems like Owen Freeman would be a good transfer target for us next season ... right ?

If Pope offers him, I would say that he fills a need for his team construction. With the team we have, I think transfers will be able to see their roles and notice how today’s team are treated like Rockstars. I expect us to get our transfers early this year.

I would say so. 6'-10" 245. Avg. 16.7 pts., 6.7 Reb. and had 35 blocks before going down in early February with a Season ending finger injury. If he can fully recover, I'd say that's a pretty solid add to the front court. Iowa is about to fire their coach too, so there may be some fuel to this rumor. Only knock is his 3 pt. shooting is suspect. but not sure if that's a product of the system and him not taking many or something else.

Talented guy. HIs problem is Iowa under McCaffery was an embarrassment regarding S&C. So he gained awful weight, was out of shape and couldn't guard anyone this year. Iowa played a nothing Non Conference schedule per usual under Fran. Last year he was more impressive and like all Iowa players-they don't lift, don't get stronger, don't get better. Now he's skilled and has potential. Family was not happy with the program and he had a "finger surgery" to end his year which was 2 weeks after rumors got out he was gone after the year.

Would he be a starting center or a PF?

I still remember the CJ Fredrick body transformation pictures the offseason he transferred here from Iowa. In the before picture, dude was maybe 30%+ body fat with no muscle definition

Here's a pretty in depth eval from before this season. Haven't watched much big 10 last few years so can't vouch, but should give us an idea of his game

As always appreciate your insight. I feel like those midwest corn bred states should make their living on having good S&C programs, I'm thinking of the famous Nebraska o-lineman photo:

Can he pass?
Low assist percentage, for what that's worth. Not sure what Iowa asked him to do but Amari is 23.8% this year, and Freeman is 9.6%. 1.3 assists per game.
yea, the videos I watched showed him inside, nothing at all outside
I saw a couple clips of him driving from the top of the key. Didn't look super smooth.

I don't really know based on how Pope has utilized his 5 man--Freeman can't handle the ball and isn't a great passer. He's a traditional type of 5 who has some nice touch--could see him stepping out to shoot but he's not bringing the ball up nor are you playing through him in the halfcourt.

Iowa's S&C under McCaffery was a joke. He didn't make anyone get in shape or get stronger. Did a great job with skill and offensive basketball but if you looked at a player he brought into the program, they looked similar physically from FR-8th year (sorry flashback to Jordan Bohannon's career)

I always worry about players coming off a injury especiall if itfoot ankle or wrist finger related. Nagging injuries seem to never really go away.

Watching him defend PNR's is very painful.

No thanks. Pope needs players to stretch the floor. Get athletic bigs, it shouldn’t be that hard at a place like Kentucky.
Freeman seems like he’d be a better fit to replace Broome at Auburn. Not as athletic as JB but would have multiple years.
