Why not? He's dropped down to the bottom of the first round. Is that guaranteed money and even if it is, it's not millions is it? Wouldn't he do well to take another shot - say at NU, where he has enough talent around him to do some damage, yet still be clearly "the man" and take NU back to the NCAAs? And perhaps, squeeze back into lottery consideration?

Maybe get rid of the assistant we added last season who doesn't seem to be much of a value add and bring back Senior if we have to.

The last pick in the first round in 2021 was Santi Aldama. He signed for 4 years, $10.2 million.

He was listed as a late first rounder in one projection I saw, and a second-rounder in another.

I hope NU has reached out.

The rumor mill said Baldwin senior was headed to Mizzou as an assistant, but that isn’t happened yet.

Firs-round picks get a 4-year deal, 2 years guaranteed, salary is based on what pick they are. If he’s late first round he’d get somewhere around $4-4.5M guaranteed with team options for another $6-8M.

But if he drops to the 2nd round? No guarantees at all. If he’s borderline I would think he’d have to be considering another college year. I wouldn’t assume that would be with us though.

Such bad luck that Senior happened to be coaching at UW-Mil during his recruitment and his one year in school. We are cursed.

April fools day was last Friday
Not meant to be an April Fools joke.

I'm serious. I mean if he is border line 2nd round, why not play his way into the 1st round, guaranteed money, and maybe even into the lottery if he can lead NU to the Final Four?

He was a ball boy for NU and grew up a fan. Maybe CCC ditches one of the assistants and brings Senior back on.
I understand that part. I am looking at it from the standpoint of it being a "rehab" year for him, I can't think of a worse place to come. Arguably the worst coach in P6, a "close to last place" team that lost a lot of talent and has only one recruit coming in. He already played on a terrible team with a terrible coach, and didn't really move the needle for them (yes injuries were part of it)

He could pick any P6 team that made the sweet 16, out of a hat, and do better.

I don't like bashing our program, but if I were PBS, I'd suggest that he go elsewhere

I think everyone here waaay overestimates the appeal and value of an NU degree. And yes, the North Shore is a great place . . . to raise a family. These 20 year olds don’t care about that yet. These are big time athletes who want to showcase their skills on the biggest stage (March Madness). And I’m sure they want a college bar scene that is more Madison and less Sophia Steak. That CC can get serious conversations with so many top 100 players is pretty amazing, even if he’s a terrible X’s and O’s Coach.

NU degree has significant appeal to kids who are smart enough to pass NU admissions.
And their parents.
To me that is an absolute irrefutable fact.

Because you put "waaay" in there tells me that you don't have college age kids, possibly not kids of any age.

We should not bother to pretend we are recruiting Top 50 prospects.
Its just stupid and a waste of recruiting resources. We are not an NBA feeder program. The NBA-dreaming high-schoolers know that.

Collins needs to understand that, but he is still fooling himself.

And do you really think the bar scene matters a lot to these "big time athletes?"

I have kids, I also have a college degree and a law degree from Northwestern; I understand the value of an NU degree. But it’s appeal is greatly reduced when it comes to recruiting top athletic prospects. I have been involved in many booster events. I have heard dozens of times that if recruiting decisions were made by parents then NU would have the #1 class football and basketball every year. But that’s not how it works.

And if you don’t think bar scene and night life matters to athletes then I’m going to guess you didn’t know too many of them.

And Collins had been close on NBA prospects (PBJ, Saddiq Bey, Max Christie)

You're vastly overrating PBJ's abilities. Unsure at this point if he can be better than Vic Law.

I doubt PBJ is coming here, but if we had a Vic Law on this year’s team taking Ty Berry or Berran’s minutes we have 10 wins in the BIG. He would def. make an impact.

I'm sure we'll have a good idea after the Combine of whether or not PBJ will make the first round. All of the mock drafts I've seen still have him as a first-rounder, although he's well outside the top 10. If he has a solid performance at the Combine, I think his first-round status is secure and I don't think there's any reason he'd stay in the NCAA ranks.

I would imagine he's working with an agent to analyze the economic prospects in this decision very carefully.

On a similar note, word on the street (aka Internet) is that Max Christie had a falling out with Izzo towards the end of the year. It’s unlikely that he will play for Sparty again. If he doesn’t enter the NBA draft, many expect him to transfer. All part of CCC’s master plan to unite Max and PBJ in Evanston? 🤔

Don't forget that Christie and Bryce Hopkins were AAU teammates.

Ahhhhh, to dream.
