Wow! And to think before calipari came to UK PPat played his back to,the basket. Calipari helped him with his game . Patterson came out a few weeks ago and talked about how calipari helped him and his outside game.

Article from this past week

"Being taller than everybody, I was forced to play the 5," Patterson said. "In college my first 2 years, I was a center at 6'8, so to that I credit my post defense and (Coach) Calipari, he came in my junior year, he introduced me to the perimeter game. He allowed me to shoot the ball, put the ball on the floor and that allowed me to transition to the NBA.

"It opened up my game. Had I not stayed with DeMarcus (Cousins) and John (Wall), I would have come out as a 6'8 center. A guy who had never stepped out to the three-point line or even taken an 18' jump shot, I would be pretty much a version of Chuck (Hayes), but not as strong and not as wide. That would have been my game, just around the basket and then I would have had to start from scratch when I got to the NBA. Coming back with John and DeMarcus and Calipari is definitely the reason that I am the type of player I am today."

I have to admit that I would have never seen that one coming. PPat has really expanded on his repertoire.

Bunch of Cal's Cats stepping up big time this year. I remember PPat going out to that camp in the summer that Cal was hired. He completely changed his game and with hard work is about to cash in. Got get 'em Patrick!

As someone who doesn't keep up with the NBA very much that is awesome for me to hear. Pat was one of my five or so favorite Wildcats ever. I always like to remind everyone how he earned his degree in 3 years. Was absolutely all you could ask for in a student-athlete and representative of Kentucky Basketball. And threw down some ferocious slams in '10... was the best dunker on the team.

Can't wait to see him play in Toronto in March against the Bulls and Lakers. Never been to an NBA game, but I get to see 2 in 3 days in a different country. Life is pretty cool.

Somebody ought to send that article with P. Pat's quotes to Ivan Rabb, Chieck Diallo, and Caleb Swanigan. But, then, I suspect that the U.K. coaching staff has already done that !

What a great piece, and what a great recruiting jewel ! ! !

Slightly off-topic on this, but Kyle Korver is quietly having the greatest perimeter shooting season in basketball history. He's hitting 52.5% on threes, and it's not a case where a guy has a low number of attempts- he's 2nd in the league in makes. His true shooting percentage (Total points / [(FGA + (0.44 x FTA)] is 72.6%, second in the league to Brandan Wright (who plays limited minutes, and basically only dunks), and also the second highest ever recorded. And that's a category usually dominated by big guys who take all their shots within 5 feet of the rim. The highest full-time perimeter guy I see is Steve Nash in 06-07, at 65.2%.

As for Patterson, it is shocking how much he's improved his shot, but part of his success comes down to game-planning by Toronto. There's a huge emphasis in the NBA now in setting up open 3's (especially corner 3's, because they're closer), and guys can kill by just being able to stand out there and nail those shots.

Why be an ***?

Patterson took 4 shots his first two years and went 24-69 his junior year (35%). I'd say that isn't bad.

Not that I don't give cal a ton of credit and it's good PR for cal but patterson had a beautiful 12 foot bank shot coming in. He wasn't a dakari Johnson. It's actually one of my favorite things about Pat when we got him because it's such a lost art and easy guaranteed 2 points to use the square at an angle.

Everyone close their eyes and imagine where we would have been the two years before Coach Cal got here if PPat didn't come to Kentucky. I know we wasn't very good anyway, but he is really the only thing that kept us afloat. Along with Jodie his junior year.

I heard PPat is going to start at the 3 tonight against the Hawks.

Never would anyone project PPat playing the SF, but sounds like Casey is trying to mix it up a bit. They're 4-6 in their last 10 and haven't lost to the Hawks yet this year.

As for Korver, he is making 3 pointers look like layups. If you let him get open, its as automatic as you're going to see.
He is looking to be the 1st NBAer to average:

- 50% FG
- 50%3FG
- 90% FT

2 good stories this year in the NBA.(Toronto and Atlanta)
