Thanks for clarifying. :)

Stoddard definitely has a big name (and he is a big guy) but do you know what kind of energy for recruiting etc he has? He has been, after all, part of an absolutely miserable and futile program for a very long time. I wonder if some new blood might be of benefit. Then again, baseball is zero revenue so they might just keep it in the family.

I have been so confused by the university's attitude toward the baseball program. The reality is that Stevens only had four winnings seasons out of 26. It's like we just accepted that we'll never be good at baseball and were fine with that. I'd like to think that is not the case even if baseball is a non-revenue sport but it sure seems that way. I guess the next hire will be a good indication of the university's commitment to the program. Hopefully they can find someone like Tim Lenahan who built the soccer program from nothing to a consistent tournament team.

The huge donation to the program and renovations should help attract some solid candidates

Yeah not going to happen. They're building a beautiful new baseball stadium and already spent a few million on the field this off season.

The Big 10 as a conference has struggled in baseball for several years. Most years they only get two teams into the NCAA tourney. But this year five teams made it and all won their first round games, so maybe this will inspire NU to get a top tier coach.

You should hire the Illinois pitching coach, Drew Dickinson. Hartlieb is a good coach, but it's Dickinson who has led this team's pitching staff to the top of D-1 pitching stats, including the development of a top 10 draft pick in Tyler Jay and an outstanding starting rotation. If you're really building a new baseball stadium (didn't know that), you want a top notch, dynamic coach as the guy who' s going to rejuvenate Wildcat baseball. Just a friendly hint from one of your rival pumpkin heads. ;-)

Dickinson certainly has some impressive credentials and would appear to have some very strong recruiting ties in Illinois and throughout the Midwest...I'd love to see a young energetic coach takes the reigns ala Collins. Thanks for sharing your thoughts pumpkin head!

I'd love to see someone like Loretta come in and take the job. Hell lets get Girardia back here. He has to be burning out on New York doesn't he?

Also the fact that the B1G has two teams in the super regionals says a lot about the talent that this conference has. There's no reason NU can't be right up there, as our teams historically have had the talent.

hey lunker...are there any whispers as to who might be in contention to replace Stevens? I would have thought they would have named a successor by now, unless the top candidates are still playing. Hoping we hear something soon.

No not that I have heard. We have to find out soon though, as this is prime recruiting season. They will basically miss out on a whole class if someone is not named soon.

Looks like it's going to be an Illini assistant after all, not Dickinson though - reports say it will be Spencer Allen - Asociate Head at IL and previously at Creighton. Excited to see what he can do at NU.
