I think the ones they sell here use wood but I guess anything small that is dry could be used. You can buy a wood pellet machine for cheap I think.Local repair shop has one that uses corn, He really likes it, says it lasts a long time with just hundred pounds. Says it does great and is cheap to operate. His shop is less than 1000 sq. ft
I have no personal experience with them however.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you still residing in Taiwan or the P.I.?anyone out their own a pellet stove? If so what do you like and dislike about it. Will they heat a house off around 1500-2000 sq ft?
Thanks

Yes, I'm still in Taiwan but I am moving back to paintsville so my daughter can play golf. She is 10 and has played for 2 years. My home in paintsville has central heat and air but gas costs can run 500-700 a month in winter because of its age. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you still residing in Taiwan or the P.I.?
It will only draw mice if you have holes for them to get in. I store corn in my garage for my sons chickens, always a hundred or more pounds in there. No mice problems and this is four years straight I've kept it in there. Now at the chicken pen yes, corn can draw rats, mice, squirrels, coons etcThey have to have elecricity to run. If the electricity goes out, you lose your heat source.
They are high maintenance due to sensitive electronic parts and when they need serviced its hard to find service techs that know how to fix them. The ignitor and auger are common failures. They also require alot of cleaning.
They make a dull "ice machine" type rumble that takes getting used to
The pellet stockpiles are always running short in mid winter so to insure you have a supply its best to buy in bulk, which means you need room to store 1-2 tons of bags of pellets.
Corn will draw mice.
If the auger becomes clogged, it cant feed pellets to the flame and the fire goes out and you awake or return home to a cold house.
My parents have had two. The first one would clog up the auger fairly often leaving them waking to a cold house. They thought maybe
Oh, gotcha. Well, in that case, good luck and safe travels.Yes, I'm still in Taiwan but I am moving back to paintsville so my daughter can play golf. She is 10 and has played for 2 years. Just looking for some heat source other than gas and was reading about pellet stoves. I trust Kentucky people. Haha

AMEN willie! i dont even own a winter coat or boots. went golfing jan 9th it was 84 degreesThat's insane. No one should have to pay that much money to heat their home unless its the size of Al Gore's home.
Move down here to Florida and you don't need heat.
