Merry Christmas Nittany Lion fans. One more record in the books, many more to come.

  • Penn State won its first NCAA Tournament match in 1930. Penn State was the host, but Paul Long was the only one of four wrestlers to get his hand raised. And only once.
  • Things have improved since then. Penn State now owns 1,510 victories, placing them fifth on the all-time list behind Oklahoma State (2,395), Iowa (1,948), Iowa State (1,687), and Oklahoma (1,583). Penn State likely moves up to fourth after the 2027 tournament.



Of late Penn State has been known for dominance.

Below are the PSU top 10 (and ties) all-time leaders in majors, techs, pinfalls, and bonus points (normalized for today's scoring rules) along with their overall rank in NCAA tournament history.

So I'm laying on the yoga mat supposed to be thinking about my intentions, instead my mind wanders to that first graph. The 49 wins PSU had at the last tournament seemed like a lot. So I decided to take a look. Turns out it is a lot.

Another one for the PSU record book - most matches won in a single NCAA Tournament.
