No problem with this. He was fun to watch the last two years.
I will never understand why anyone would be upset about a player not playing in a truly meaningless game.
What if you gave a substantial amount of money to an NIL group to support Penn State football and then learned that that group was still providing support to a player who, though healthy, chose not to show up? Would you send them money next year? Why would you pay for non performance? You probably wouldn’t pay an employee who refuses to work.
Ron Popeil's last minute NIL offer wasn't enough to keep him around for another season.

Meaningful to who? Playing for a NC is meaningful to the players, last week’s games showed that. Of course the players value playing in the CFP more than they would playing the Peach Bowl.

Well, sure. I’m currently reading The Iliad. There’s a lot of bloodthirsty trophy hunting in it. And the trash talk is really top-notch. But the CFP is still meaningful.

Don't you mean Michigan? At any rate, PSU played hard the last two weeks meaningful or not. Taking pride in performance and working to improve bring meaning to any endeavor.

It's exactly as meaningful or meaningless as the Rutgers and MSU games in which he played. Exactly. He even went back into the MSU game after being injured and the game being out of hand. Not commenting on Chop's decision. But to call the bowl game "truly meaningless" is objectively wrong.
Nothing wrong with your understanding, but if you were my age (83), and lived and grew up in the JoePa era, you would understand perfectly.
And many of us will never understand how any "fan" could possibly consider any game, let alone a NY6 bowl game, to be meaningless. As with so many things in today's digital society, I suspect the vast majority of people who speak in those terms don't really mean it, certainly not literally. My guess is they feel the need to emphasize some point they want to make, and wildly overstate their position, thinking the gross exaggeration will have the desired effect.
I recall those days. Players took pride in playing for a team, Camaraderie with a group of guys, representing a great university and its fans. Today’s ME generation for the most part is pretty much focused on one thing, the almighty dollar.
Any sense of team spirit has long ago left the building.

Upset that the times have changed...sure I guess. Upset at a young man trying to secure his future for himself and his family.....that is just greedy fans IMO. Sure it would be great if he played, but he has that possible first round pick by his name and him going to work for that early isn't any indictment on him. To be fair even Joe couldn't have stopped this train without other coaches using it against him.

it is truly meaningless. The entire tradition of bowl games cost us several chances at national championships. I am very much looking forward to the playoffs and good riddance to the bowls. Why would a player risk injury to make money for some networks who don't give a damn about them.
I realize the "in my opinion" is to be assumed, but it would still be wise to state that, because making that statement as if it is fact isn't a good look.
You didn't respond above so I'm guessing you won't respond here. But why did Robinson play against MSU? Why did he come back into the game after being hurt? What changed between that game and the next game? No one, except maybe you, would say a Black Friday-night game against a terrible MSU was more meaningful than a NY6 bowl game against a #11-ranked SEC team. So what makes a game meaningless to you?
