1978 Penn State hired Dick Harter as head coach for Men's Basketball. There were other candidates including a young fast rising coach named Jim Valvano coaching at Iona. Some feel Harter was the right choice....me not so much.
Pat Kraft has stated that he wants EVERY athletic team to win.....so when will Penn State basketball be competitive? I felt
Mike Rhoades would make PSU at a minimum competitive ....I was wrong. Seems other football schools can field respectable MBB teams why has PSU struggled? Should I just forget MBB and cheer our wrestlers?

In this age of college athletics every sport needs a deep pocket partner for NIL that cares about success. Our wrestlers have that, our hockey team has that, our football team obviously has numerous partners. Basketball does not. Although the Athletic Department has attempted to raise the budget with the past two coaching hires the sport is not, has not, nor will it likely ever be a priority so the program suffers in a league that takes men's hoops very seriously - not a good situation. Even if you decided to throw over-market salary for a coach there is no tradition, no atmosphere, and no following for this team. I've been around since the Harter days and always wanted a competitive team but I've now come to accept reality. If I were ever to hit the Power Ball drawing I would step up to be the guy but given the odds of that... appreciate the remarkable wrestling team and enjoy our hockey team!

They never should have fired Chambers. Progress was slow but it was steady and his teams always played hard.

That being said this team is very young. However I often feel they lack effort on defense and rebounding.

Where would they be if Niederhauser had stayed?

Get rid of both BB teams and allow BJC to schedule way more events.

That was the excuse for his brother not coming here. Please refrain from moving the goal posts. For the record I don't believe it's time yet to fire a coach after 3 years when everyone else got 9.
Not sure why we wouldn't learn from those mistakes...

I have always thought basketball was boring. Too many show-offs trying to impress with their dribbling or passing resulting in turnovers. Perhaps my interest was dulled by the poor teams at Penn State. I tried, but to no avail. I'd rate basketball alongside soccer as the most insipid sports. Apologies to those I might offend, but I'm just being honest. Go with wrestling.

Someone from Indiana besmirching basketball? You may need to leave the state (unless your Indiana refers to the one in PA).

It’s time to look for a new Bball coach. The program has become more of an embarrassment to the university, if that’s even possible.

Agree, though I’m not sure it’s possible to succeed in this role without a completely new direction and investment.

MBB starts trailing Rutgers 9-0.

3 turnovers in the first 3 minutes.
On tv it looked like the 73 fans in attendance were standing until PSU scored their first basket. Like watching this team play needs additional torture.
