Think I'm not crazy. I think there is a real possibility that we could be better next year. Check it. Malik Williams returns, Dark is Perry returns, all of our current freshmen Jay Scrubb, our other 2 recruits and if Bryce Hopkins reclassi.fies. starting 5
David Johnson
Jay Scrubb
SamuelWilliamson
Bryce Hopkins
Malik Williams
Reserves: Josh Nickelberry, Aiden Ieghehon, Jaylen Withers, Quinn Slazinski, DeAndre Davis, JJ Traynor. That's an impressive roster. DJ in year 2 will be a machine, Jay Scrubb is unstoppable, Williamson year 2 ( animal) look him up , Bryce Hopkins is a freaking man. He does it all and is absolutely dominant., and Malik in senior year will be one of the top centers nationally. Natural progression says Hulk, Withers and Nickelberry will be solid off the bench. I honestly believe this team will be a matchup nightmare for anyone. What say you

Me thinks you have hit on two possibilities. One, you are making a good and valid point about our team for next year and, two, you just might be crazy. :D

I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re just as good or better next year. Our current team is not athletic. I definitely think next year’s team will be more athletic but the inexperience could bite them. Time will tell.

I haven’t read much of Hopkins reclassifying. Honestly I wouldn’t want him to with our depth at the 3,4 next season. Starting 5 next season is probably DJ Perry Williamson Scrubb and Malik. Scrubb is a high level rebounder and so is DJ for his position so I think we’d be fine there. That’s a very good starting 5. Scrubb is going to be a star next year and he brings an element of something we don’t have this year. A guy that can take someone off the dribble and create his own offense. Only concern is depth at guard and center. Just have to hope Nickelberry and Aiden are going to be able to handle big roles in year 2. Maybe we land another guard that reclassifies into this class or a grad transfer to help out with depth but I agree next years team should be another very good one.

A lot of ifs.

Malik, Sam, and DJ all 3 are likely to return. But I’ve seen some head scratching people declare before (Deng Adel)

Scrubb has a legit chance to be a pro. He’s in Juco for a reason, I know he loves the city but is it worth passing on millions of guaranteed dollars to sit another year in a class?

We’re guaranteed to lose Nwora (he gone), Enoch, McMahon, Sutton, and Fresh. That’s our 4 top scorers right there, 70% of scoring. 3 of our top 4 rebounders which account for 62%. 5 of our top 6 in minutes played which accounts for 68% of the minutes. 5 of our top 6 in 3-point makes which account for 77% of our made 3’s.

Assume everyone returns?

Williams
Scrubb
Williamson
Johnson
Perry

Nickleberry
Igeihon
Slazenski
Davis
Traynor

That’s a lot of depth and scoring to replace. Yes, players will get better and DJ will be a star. But I don’t see any shooters on the court we can rely on as of now. I see a good lineup, but nothing proven on the bench. Not a lot of upperclassmen. Not a lot of size.

2021-22 will be our year. Next year we will have growing pains, but the 2019 class will grow into their roles.

Yeah if is a big word. Th3 potential is there. Scrubb and Hopkins are the keys. I agree we need a good backup guard and big. Withers may fill the big need though. Be fun to see anyway.

If Scrubb shows up he and Johnson could be a terrifying guard combination. He does have the possibility of going pro now, but I think he could really up his draft stock in a year of cbb. Is 1st rd vs 2rd money worth waiting a year is the question?

I think next season will be interesting if nothing else. i think we have will have a lot of talent but we do lose a lot of production. We would probably be more athletic but we lose a lot of shooting ability this year. Nickelberry would be the only guy with a rep as a shooter on the team.

That’s the millions of dollar question.

Coming back to school makes you a better player. Nothing beats in game touches in high pressure situations in front of big crowds. Sadly, NBA execs don’t see that for some reason.

Trezl hurt his stock by returning. Cost him some early money. But he developed a better offensive game and now he’s a stud.

The way it looks now, Nwora really didn’t change his stock by returning. He’s gonna be a better player, TBD on how his career goes.

Nobody thought Don was fully ready to leave. We all saw the potential and thought another year would make him a top 5 pick. He didn’t need it and succeeded.

On the other hand, Chinanu def needed to return but took his money and ran.

Scrubb has to weigh the risks. Right now he’s dominating JUCO. Coming to Louisville has its risks. He could take a step back playing against better competition. He could get injured. The draft in 2021 might be stronger..

And he’s not some kid, he’s ending his 2nd year of college. He hasn’t really been on a college campus. He’s lived in a crappy area with no campus life and has played in front of small crowds and crappy gyms. He might be ready to just earn a check.

If he’s a late 1st and early 2nd projection, I bet he goes. He he slips to mid 2nd round, he’s a Card.

To me trez hurt his stock by returning because he didn't get better by coming back. Rather than focusing on what got him his draft stock which was rebounding and finishing at the rim, he was trying to get a jump shot and play better away from the rim. Now in the NBA he is having success from doing exactly what scouts loved about him.

Onuaku could have helped his draft stock by coming back because you could see him getting better and a year of consistently dominating college competition would have gotten him drafted higher.

Mitchell absolutely made the right choice. There was some legitimate doubt that he wasn't a PG but most of it was from fans who simply wanted him back after a disappointing season ending. There were still a lot of people who thought Mitchell was good enough and his athleticism in workouts put him over the top.

Scrubb would be taking a risk but he isn't a great shooter at the moment and the knock is going to be he has only done it against juco competition. A year of cbb ends all of that imo and he has the talent to be a 1st rounder. He also would basically be a newcomer and I don't think he gets the he is at his ceiling knock that a lot of older players get.

Nwora has solidified himself as a 1st rounder. I think that in itself raised his stock by returning. He was going to be a 2nd rounder at best if he left last season. He’s a perfect guy to come off the bench and knockdown shots in the NBA.

He was an early 2nd rounder last year, but wanted a guarantee. And he was injured and couldn’t workout.

He’s marginally better in stock in a weaker year. And his stock has gone down from where it was earlier this year when he was getting lottery talk.

The stretch of the season could be big for him. If he drops anchor he's going to have to explain why during interviews with scouts. Guys have ups and downs, but Nwora is the most streaky "top" player I've seen around here maybe my entire life. And yes I was around for Billy Thompson!

Nwora will not be a first rounder. Ain’t happening. Write it down. And, IMO he will never be an NBA player.

I agree that he’ll not be a first rounder but he just might make an NBA team as a situation shooter. He has a long way to go as a defender, assist maker and rebounder. My issue with him is that I question him as a good teammate. David Johnson just might make him a better teammate by forcing Nwora to play more defense.

If this team is better next year, it will be due to addition by subtraction. There are a couple guys on this team I'll be happy to see move on...
